madera cake tin sizes
12" 5"deep
10" 5"deep
8" 5" deep

i was thinking that rather than cut in half to fill just make 2 of each at half the depth would that work oh it a wedding cake by the way

I've got recipes for madeira cake dependent on size, if you tell me diameter/width and whether round or square.

I find baking is a bit scientific and wouldn't bugger about with the consistency myself.

You will still need to trim them to remove the harder crust anyway so better off doing one of each then cutting in half ime.

8" square:
440g butter
440g caster sugar
7 eggs
500g self-raising flour

bake 1 3/4 - 2 hours

10" square:
550g butter
550g caster sugar
9 eggs
690g self-raising flour

bake 2-2 1/4 hours

It doesn't go up to 12" square but I would guesstimate:

600g butter
600g caster sugar
10 eggs
760g self-raising flour

Bake 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 hours.

And I'd agree with ComeOVeneer about the cutting off the crust.

Good luck!
