crunchie Wed 06-Apr-05 15:44:23

I have never deep fried anything in my life I cook them in the oven or make potato wedges

bubbly1973 Wed 06-Apr-05 15:44:32

lou, what do you do with the you leave it in the fryer?

i am thinking of changing from lard to sunflower oil

bubbly1973 Wed 06-Apr-05 15:45:09 you mean you cook chips from scratch or do you mean cook ready made chips in the oven which are from the shop?

Furball Wed 06-Apr-05 15:45:15

I cut potatoes into wedges mix them in a bowl with a spoonful of olive oil, spread them out on a baking tray and cook them in the oven for about 40mins. Yummy, and DS loves them as well.

northerner Wed 06-Apr-05 15:47:00

Ooh Furball I'm going to try that - sounds yummy!

crunchie Wed 06-Apr-05 15:48:08

Oven chips or like furball or v.v occasionally parboil 'chips' and then oven bake.

My mum never deep fried anything

pixiefish Wed 06-Apr-05 15:48:08

Par boil them and then cook them in the oven for 20 minutes with a spray of spray oil

Blossomhill Wed 06-Apr-05 15:48:14

Sorry bubbly I just have a thing about fat. I mean cod's duck thread nearly toppled me over....

vict17 Wed 06-Apr-05 15:49:07

we have oven chips rarely, also chip shop chips every so often, but never make them. My dh used to have a deep fat fryer but when i moved in I threw it out!!

Furball Wed 06-Apr-05 15:50:04

Yup, skins and all. I don't parboil them either.

bubbly1973 Wed 06-Apr-05 15:51:15

i didnt realise so many people are anti-deepfat fryers...interesting to see..

i as you can tell am not, we do eat healthy the rest of the week, rice, pasta, cous cous etc etc, but i do love my chips once a week done in deepfat fryer...perhaps i should change my fat though from lard to sunflower oil

Titania Wed 06-Apr-05 15:52:28

deep fried in sunflower oil!!! YUM YUM!!

crunchie Wed 06-Apr-05 15:54:37

Kids like making them too

I cut mine up, put them in a little freezer bag with a slug of oil, the kids then squich them around a bit, sometimes adding flavourings like paprika, or mild spices, then plonk them on an oven tray.

They go great with the chicken nuggets too

lou33 Wed 06-Apr-05 15:55:21

depends how clean the oil is afterwards really bubbly.

crunchie Wed 06-Apr-05 15:55:42
