Which tinned tuna is best?

I don't eat tinned tuna as the smell makes my stomach churn, but am completelly baffled by the different varieties. Don't know which one to get for my dt's, age 2.5, or does it make no difference? Have worked out that spring water is the best medium, no salt or oil, but not sure about skipjack, yellowfin etc TIA!

god knows! i stood in front of all the tins the other day and decided like you that spring water must be the best medium, however sitting in front of dreaded annabel karmel cookbook now and her recipes all seem to use tuna in oil cans! have not even considered type of tuna, i'd just go for skipjack!

Some of the chunks end up like mush! I've really gone off tinned stuff - but isn't any other option really.
I think anything except brine is good.

I only buy yellowfin tuna and usually but it in spring water mainly due to the fact that its lower in fat. Yellowfin tuna tastes lovely - really fresh. I can get it in Sainsburys and Tescos do small tins in a 3 pack which are a really handy size.

I'm unconvinced by the springwater bit tbh. Although it does not have salt on the ingredients list (unlike the oil and brine packed stuff) it does have an identical sodium/salt content and doesn't taste any less salty. Really would like to know why!
I find the springwater packed tuna a bit dry so often go for olive oil packed (not bothered about fat content).
I find 'steaks' are a better texture than 'chunks'. apart from that I just go for the cheapest own brand.
God what an anoraky answer - I don't spend all my life perusing tuna can labels, honest
