I really don't know

and its not for cooking its for putting in DS's bath to stop the chicken pox itch

(he's had 2 already, please tell me its the same stuff)

I think it's essentially the same stuff but differently processed - ie., porridge oats are rolled oats, oatmeal is ground to a finer texture.

No, it's not - sorry!

Twiglett Fri 01-Apr-05 17:01:44

but if you shove some porridge oats in a sock - tie it to a tap and run the hot water through it - the cloudy stuff that comes out of the other end ... would that be the same?

or do I need a huge massive icon for having made DS have 2 porridge baths

Oh maybe I'm wrong. I bow to marthamoo's superior knowledge

Oatmeal is like sawdust, but I guess ground up porridge oats would be like sawdust...?

Is the CP causing him a lot of distress?

Oh but he'll have that nice neon glow around him now.

Or was that Ready Brek ?

T'ain't superior - it's Google!

We put a handful of bicarb of soda in the bath when they had CP ... I don't know if it really helped much, but it made me feel better, as I at least thought I was doing something

Twiglett Fri 01-Apr-05 17:03:58

Not really - he's just on 2nd day and not massively covered, every so often complains the spots 'hurt' (meaning itch I think)

he says the bath makes him feel better though

I'm feeling hot with embarrassment at the moment if it isn't the right stuff

Have you tried bicarbonate of soda in the bath - great for stopping the itch (nothing to do with oats, but my GP told me to use it instead of calamine).

ladymuck Fri 01-Apr-05 17:05:00

No idea how it would mix if ds is already in the bath though... Perhaps something to try tomorrow...

I liked Lacto Calamine better than conventional Calamine too (though I have been disagreed with when suggesting this on MN before so I guess it's a personal thing).

Bicarbs good and the porridge oats are fine. Don't use ready brek though.

ladymuck Fri 01-Apr-05 17:09:39

I'm justing have visions of a small spotty lad in a bath full of porridge....

Soupy . I think I love you - now I don't feel a complete and utter eejit

Will try the bicarb too I think
