TABLET- if I make it, how long will it keep?

Providing I don't eat it all, obviously.

And, if you know the answer to that, do you have a tried and tested recipe? I have found a few but would like to know that it works before I give it a go. I wanted to make it for xmas presents but have to send it overseas so will need to make it at the end of November.

it's delicious and never lasts long in our house - so can't help with the storage.

It really doesn't taste so nice (and the texture isn't so good) after a week or so.

Tablet:
1lb granulated sugar
2 oz butter
1 tbs golden syrup
1/4 pint milk
vanilla essence

Put all but essence into a thick saucepan over a low heat, mixing all the time wih a wooden spoon. Bring to boil and cook, still stirring for around 10 minutes. Test by putting a small spoonful into a saucer of cold water - if the mixture can form into a soft ball it is ready. Take off heat and beat in opposite direction to the way you stirred in before(honestly - this is what I was taught!) and add a little vanilla essence. Continue until you can sense that the mixture is forming grains - you can hear and feel this!
Pour into a greased 7" square pan. Mark into squares when firm.

oooh. just printedrecipe. discovered tablet last year. yumola. need to find somewhere that sells condensed milk this time on a sunday.
