Brown bread and butter pudding

Anyone ever made it? Due to DP's too-enthusiastic freezer-excavating I either have to get really inventive or eat lots of bread this weekend. The latter is not an option.

I've made it with wholemeal bread before. It's slightly denser, not as fluffy as with white bread, but yummy nonetheless. You can also make a savoury version with grated cheese on top.
