yes you will - unless you've been feeding large quantities over a long preios of time. Really you'll be ok.

It was relish. I checked the list on the first day and it wasnt on there. We had almost used the full bottle flavouring shepards pie etc over the last few weeks. I feel a bit woried now cause i checked the list today and it was on there

Don't worry - I heard on the radio that you'd have to have been eating the product and nothing else for a very long time. The risk is so tiny, tiny and it's just media hype that's worrying you.

People smoke like chimneys for 30, 40 yrs and are OK even though we know smoking causes lung cancer. The risk from this is way, way, way lower. I really wouldn't worry at all if I were you.

Thankyou. your right it is media hype. They do know how to scare us though. The moment i saw the list my heart sunk to think i'd been feeding my children this stuff.
Your right though. My husband smokes 20+ a day and he's still well. (would like him to stop soon though)

What is the sudan1 list?

nikcola Fri 25-Feb-05 12:28:46

sorry has anyone got a link to the list of foods ?

Gobbledigook Fri 25-Feb-05 12:32:29

KATG - a food dye called Sudan1 (potentially carcinogenic) is banned in the UK (though it is used in foods in other countries) and some products have been found to contain it. The gov has published a list of all the foods that they know contain the dye and they have been withdrawn from the shelves.

The dye is in chilli powder that is used to colour and flavour foods - mainly sauces or ready made food so the risk of coming to any harm from it is very, very tiny - of course it has been in the news a lot lately and the list has been published so everyone is checking to see if they've eaten anything from it.

I don't know why the gov are getting so stressed about it, cigarettes and alcohol are freely available in the shops and we all know what damage they can do!

Have a look at this jnbsmum. It's quite reassuring - likens the risk to smoking one cigarette - we know cigarettes cause cancer but one (or even a whole packet) is unlikely to do you much harm.

The media are trying to hype this up into the next big thing since BSE and it just isn't. Now we know, it woudl be silly to go on knowingly eating this stuff but it really isn't worth losing sleep over having eaten it already. It was legal in the UK up until a couple of years ago.
