I haven't tried this but have read that you can chop it up, put it in ice cube trays with water and freeze it that way.

CHop up fine and put in airtight container . Give it a shake so that all the leaves don't lump together . About thins time of year I strip my plants as I only kill them in the winter. I do leave some whole leaves as well and snap off the stalks as I need them.
Another idea is to chop super fine and shove in a small bottle of good olive oil.- I use a small funnel take some of the oil out first shove in the basil and pour oil down the funnel so it washes it back in.

You can freeze the leaves too. Just put them into plastic bags. I think if you wanted to use it for spag bol, the best way would just be to put it in from frozen.

This blog suggests whizzing them up with olive oil before freezing.
