Substituting maple syrup with honey for a haricot bean recipe

Will it radically affect the flavour of the dish? it is haricot beans soaked overnigt, then cooked with onions, tomatos, veg stock and maple syrup and brown sugar

Is it Boston Baked beans? I love that, my dad used to make it. It will be fine.

well, it is in teh oven, half maple syrup and half honey, will let you know in 3 hours what it is like!

sorry !

here goes:

250g dried haricot beans
3 tbsp sunflower oil
2 x finely chopped onions
50 ml maple syrup
3 tbsp tomato paste
800 g ( 2 tins) chopped toms
3 tbsp brown sugar
150 ml veg stock
salt to taste

soak beans overnight, drain rinse, add fresh water and boil for one hour until soft and tender

in a casserole dish, fry onions until golden and soft . Stir in tomatos, beans and all other ingredients.

cover and put in oven at 140 degrees for around 3 hours.



i only used one onion and i used half syrup a nd half honey

To answer your question, yes you can substitute the two, slightly different taste but it will work in the same way, it is just for flavouring, you may not even detect a difference.

they are lush !

am going to make it again with chunky peppers and sausages

made enough for 3 meals and a load for the freezer
