Mine was always the same:

Cornedbeef or ham sandwich on white bread
Packet of 5p crisps
Milky Way or a Mars Bar
One of those cheapy juice cartons where you stick the straw through the film on top of the cup.

Loads of different things: these 'healthy' wholemeal crisps (blue or red packaging, cannot remember the name), whole mini cucumbers my dad used to grow (I love cucumber), slices of cold pizza, etc etc. I would have killed for the predictability of your lunchbox. Children are so cruel if anyone is different!!!

I had a phase of black pudding with those dried onions on them, delish. Salad cream with sugar - can't stand the stuff now though.

Wonder if this was why I was not in with the in crowd.

hazeyjane Fri 12-Sep-08 15:04:08

sardine and tomato sandwiches ( my mum was cruel and I wasn't popular)

bag of 5p burger bites

viscount biscuit

quosh or tiptop

when I had vouchers for school dinners, I always had spam fritter and chips.

Sandwich. Home-made bread with cheese usually. Or ryvita and butter with cheese. Fruit. Home-made biscuits. Squash. All in lovely 70's colour sandwich box and beaker (avocado, aubergine and burnt orange!) I think my DCs are spoilt rotten actually.

I had school lunches from 10 upwards when I went to a new school.

Marmite and cucumber sandwiches on brown bread

Penguin / club / trio

Can't remember getting a drink - think there were metal jugs of warmish water on the tables (grim)

Often in Sainsburys carrier bag rather than lunchbox.

We all used to squash our crisps till they were like powder before eating (why?)

my mum used to put in egg sandwiches when me and my db were at holiday playschemes. We had no friends, the smell was appalling!

southeastastra Fri 12-Sep-08 15:13:30

bloater paste sandwich, crisps, mint club and can of pepsi

LadySanders Fri 12-Sep-08 15:13:51

marmite sandwich and half an apple

every day for 10 years or so

TheDevilWearsPrimark Fri 12-Sep-08 15:16:26

My nan used to give me fish spread sandwiches, and occasionally dripping sandwiches.
A jam sandwich or couple of bourbons for dessert
And Water.

My mum was actually much better, she was a ponce ahead of her time...

plantsitter Fri 12-Sep-08 15:17:56

We were vegetarian from very small and my mum sent me in with 'dahl soup' one day - dahl all blended up in a flask. Cue high pitched cries of 'urgh diarrhoea! She's got poo soup!' etc. From then on we had cheese sarnies and a Trio, like everyone else.

ivykaty44 Fri 12-Sep-08 15:20:06

egg and salad cream sandwiches
chicken soup
4 finger kitkat - so I could share two fingers smile

One girl in secondary used to bring a pot noddle every day for 5 years.

ChippyMintonIsOffToBurgerKing Fri 12-Sep-08 15:23:23

LOL at plantsitter. I'd take in home-made yoghurt and stir in chocolate powder to similar effect grin. I don't remember what else - certainly no crisps or biscuits. Probably a marmite sandwich wrapped in clingfilm.

DanJARMouse Fri 12-Sep-08 15:25:44

PAcket of sainsbo's own crisps

DanJARMouse Fri 12-Sep-08 15:29:32

marmite is a recurring theme! I love the stuff!

Portofino Fri 12-Sep-08 15:32:24

Sandwich spread sandwich
Space invaders or monster munch
penguin or orange club
I'd don't recall there being any fruit in there....though used to take an apple for break.

SixSpotBurnet Fri 12-Sep-08 15:33:25

Lettuce and salad cream sandwiches on white bread. Or left-over cold roast chicken on Mondays sometimes.

Don't remember taking anything else e.g crisps etc.

And we got a cup of tea at school to wash it down.

ChippyMinton Fri 12-Sep-08 15:34:19

DH bought some sandwich spread the other week hmm
and some jars of shippams paste

fryalot Fri 12-Sep-08 15:34:22

egg sandwiches.
in a tupperware box.

So every single lunchtime when I opened the box, there was this huge whiff of icky yucky smelly eggs

I ate alone every lunch time.

I used to beg for some luncheon meat - that really exotic stuff with the egg in the middle.

I'd have been chuffed with spam!

I still haven't forgiven my 'orrible mother for that <<sulks>>

RhinestoneCowgirl Fri 12-Sep-08 15:37:36

*A sandwich, usually cheese, always brown bread (oh how I yearned for white bread like all the other children...)
*A piece of fruit
*A nut bar
*Flask of homeopathic squash

If it was a special occasion (e.g. school trip) there might also be a packet of crisps and a carton of juice - luxury!

SixSpotBurnet Fri 12-Sep-08 15:38:38

Oh Squonk - that sounds very scarring...

fryalot Fri 12-Sep-08 15:40:03

it was, sixspot, it was

<<<shakes in a corner>>>

SixSpotBurnet Fri 12-Sep-08 15:40:47

I won't let DS1 take taramasalata to school for fear of adverse reactions to fishy whiff...

beansmum Fri 12-Sep-08 15:41:41

I honestly can't remember, I stopped eating lunch when I was about 9. I remember being very jealous of one girl who had a boiled egg with a face drawn on the shell every day.
