Making a crumble - does it have to be demerara sugar?

Whilst the house is quiet am making a apple & blackberry crumble and just realised I have no demerara sugar - can I use normal sugar or golden caster sugar? (have 4 bags of that!)

Thanks

You can use any kind of sugar you like.

any sugar - I like to use demerara - but the other day (like you) I was making apple and blackbery crumble and just ordinary sugar.

I always use boring white granulated.

Any sugar will do. Demerara just gives a bit of extra crunch to the topping.

I am just about to make a rhubarb crumble with boring old ordinary sugar

never used demerera - sounds nice though! Just use bog standard granulated and a little bit of cinnamon if its an apple crumble.
