Want to make apple muffins only have American recipe anyone?

I think I used the same recipe last week! Used sr wholemeal and they turned out ok. Ish!

Don't have enough s/r wholemeal do you think I can use s/r then? Did the apple cook ok?

I thought all purpose was plain flour.

SoupDragon Tue 02-Sep-08 12:07:40

what quantities of baking powder and baking soda does the recipe have?

BecauseImWorthIt Tue 02-Sep-08 12:08:11

I would have said plain flour as well

SoupDragon Tue 02-Sep-08 12:10:21

Mind you, I don't think it would ever be a problem using SR instead of plain but it wouldn't work the other way round without adding baking powder.

Tigerschick Tue 02-Sep-08 12:11:02

I would assume plain flour as it is more 'all purpose' than S/R ... but I'm not certain about this!

notsoteenagemum Tue 02-Sep-08 12:11:37

No baking poder or soda thats why was thinking s/r

Another vote for plain flour here too. You can always add baking powder to plain, but you can't remove it from s/r, which makes plain flour all purpose.

SoupDragon Tue 02-Sep-08 12:14:11

If there's no baking powder, it has to mean SR.

I'm still sure that all purpose is plain though

Tigerschick Tue 02-Sep-08 12:14:26

According to Wiki it's plain flour ... I'd add a bit of baking powder tho or they won't rise.

MascaraOHara Tue 02-Sep-08 12:14:35

no it's plain..

most muffin recipes use plain

notsoteenagemum Tue 02-Sep-08 12:17:49

so shall I make them with plain muffins don't rise much anyway do they or do I just make flat ass muffins.grin

SoupDragon Tue 02-Sep-08 12:38:08

Most muffin recipes use plain flour and baking powder though, mascara! Muffins do rise so the bulge out over the top of the cake case (hence the term "muffin top")

SoupDragon Tue 02-Sep-08 12:39:26

the apple spice muffin recipe in my book has 9oz plain flour and 3 teaspoons baking powder

notsoteenagemum Tue 02-Sep-08 12:50:34

Mine just dome a bit really depending on the recipe
this one is 2 cups all/purp flour
1/4 cup white (assuming castor) sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup melted butter
1 cup apple

Plain flour - one of the few transatlantic conversions that I am sure of grin
