I would say it was expensive, not particulary tasty for the child and if you can only cook at weekends why not bulk cook and freeze for the week?

I don't think it is "bad" for them but I think it is good as soon as you can to get them to eat what you eat.. just my opinion though

at aged one, a baby should be able to chew and eat and pick up food alone, so can eat what the family are eating. so for cheapness and ease alone, i would say ditch the jars

batch cook at the weekends and fill the freezer

things like jacket potatos, pasta and sauce, omlettes and frittatas take no preparation time and can easily be thrown together

of course a baby can eat jars, but no reason to, really..

can't you plater baby up some dinner and leave rest to be reheated for you and hubby? Or make her something simple, soup or pasta?

You will have to cook twice then.

I have three and I have always cooked for them and then us later.

I bulk cooked and had everything in pots in the freezer. I would take 2 meals out for lunch and tea and just reheat at meal times.

Now they are bigger I cook a fresh tea each day for them and then dinner for Dh and I later.

TBH at 1 he should be able to entertain himself enough for you to spend 20-30 minutes cooking. Stick him in his highchair with some toys and let him watch you. Does he nap in the day?

You could cook for you and your husband and do extra for baby the next day.

So whack the kid in a highchair with something to eat like bread and butter while you quickly prepare something more substansial. This is what majority parents do...

i would do as imnotmamag suggests

put him where he can see you , and talk while you cook

or cook when he is in bed

Do you have a television? Because while you might not want your child to watch a lot of it or whatever, IMHO there is absolutely nothing wrong with letting him watch half an hour while you cook him some pasta and heat up some sauce to go with it. Or couldn't he play in the kitchen with you while you make him a cheese sandwich and some cucumber sticks or whatever?
