if cut in florets i'd say 3mn.

if steamed whole 5 to 7mn.

Personally, I'd say about 15 to 20 mins. Trouble with a whole one though, is that the outside florettes will be soft before the hard inside!

That's still raw isn't it? grin Ignore me, I clearly over cook mine! grin

why do you want to steam it whole?

is it a punishment for a child who wouldn't eat their greens?

wink

You're not my MIL are you?

Her cauliflower cheese was a whole cauli sitting in about 1cm of cheese sauce .

I think it was her punishment for me for being a veggie when they are real foodies hmm

norbert, that sounds truly grim.

I am a veg freak but the idea of a whole steamed cauliflower is unsettling me somewhat.

you CAN cook longer say if you are waning a baby on a whole cauliflower i doubt smile )

The less the better as tastier in salads and accounts for secondary coking if you are going to saute in garlic butter or bake in cheese sauce for instance.

its also very nice finely chopped to sort of rice texture and quickly saute in butter garlic parsley

just chop it up and it will steam in the same length of time it usually does!

I do mine for 20 mins ish, but I like it cooked well and I mush it up for the kids too.

Babies LOVE cauli cheese!

groucho -it was grim, believe me.

It was so odd because she prides herself on her cooking, spends days planning meals etc and then, one day, produced that cauliflower.

I put it down to her having a senior moment wink

That is utterly horrific

It sounds like something from Roald Dahl

You should have drawn a face on it when she wasnt looking so it looked like a head sat there grin

NorbertDentressangle Thu 28-Aug-08 20:56:27

grin

That would have given the DC nightmares for years though. They would never touch cauli again
