The cake isn't the problem, im not too dim, I can manage a sponge.

However....I have never actually decorated one. What icing do I use? How do I stick it on?

What do I do, try and make it in the shape of Sonic? make a round one and draw on it? make a round one and make the picture out of more icing? Help!!

so many questions and not enough time grin

sainsburys do picture cakes - just take a pic along and they put it on the top.

Drawing I can do, im pretty good at it (and Sonic is easy!) Where would I get paste colour? I have a black icing pen (about all I have got).

whispers do you have to put marzipan on sponge cakes because im assuming not? blush

shybaby look in yellow pages, you'd be surprised (re cake shops I mean).

I live in a smallish city and there a couple of outlets within a few miles.

Well if there's no pic of it on here by this time next week you'll know my efforts were shit rubbish grin.

Pathetic. I've just tiled my bathroom but stick me in a kitchen?!

I just came up (independently) with exactly the same as tortoise... seriously - why not?

stealthsquiggle Sat 16-Aug-08 23:56:54

try searching for sonic cake in flickr - there are several with pictures on the cake, and this one which is sonic-shaped...

If you are going to cut it to shape use madiera cake and make sure it is cold (even frozen) before you start carving.

oooh stealth good tip re cuttign frozen cake.

Less crumble I'm thinking smile

ShyBaby Sun 17-Aug-08 00:13:52

Oh no, you cant bring freezing into it too, my head may explode! grin

fridge-cold will do, but cold/frozen gives you sharper lines and less crumbs.

Good Luck - you can do it, you know you can.
