Impressive chocolate dinner party desserts....

Have a dinner on Friday night for DH's work boss. We have just returned from holiday and acquired a really yummy grenache dessert wine to accompany chocolate dessert. Thought about a trio of chocolate things, very small, maybe 1 dark, 1 milk, 1 white, with diff texture. I have googled but cant find anything....

Has anyone got any foolproof ideas please?

For the white one, what about white chocolate and basil creamy things in tiny cups or shot glasses with or without balsamic strawberries. I have a recipe somewhere.

at a party recently we had some fantastic mini banoffe pies.

Use choc chip cookie dough mixture to line mini muffin cases. Once cooked and cooled add a slice of banana, toffee sauce and a blob of cream on top then add some crumbled or grated dark choc on top.

Maybe not choclatey enough for what you have in mind but they were fabulous!!

I second Delia's chocolate torte! Easy to make, impressive to look at and absolutely delicious!

do you reckon you could handle making your own chocolate and pistachio terrine? 3 layers of different chocolate and nuts.

Or if not do a proper Italian dark chocolate mousse for the dark one

what are you having ofr the other courses?

I'm afraid I'm going to go against the trend and say that I find that Delia chocolate torte sickly. Way too sweet and rather bland and boring.

is that not Delia herself in a nutshell though?

Made chocolate bread and butter pudding a few times and it is the business. Very nice the day after cold as well. Think is a delia recipe too.

These are yummy and so easy to do.

microwave chocolate-cinnamon pudding cakes

These tender individual treats are like a cross between a molten chocolate cake and a steamed pudding. The cinnamon gives them a warm, deep scent, which you can intensify by serving them with purchased cinnamon or ginger ice cream in place of the whipped cream.

Active Time: 15 minutes
Start to Finish: 10 minutes
Servings: Makes 4 servings.

Ingredients
114g fine-quality bittersweet chocolate (not unsweetened)
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
57g packed dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
177ml heavy cream
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus additional for garnish
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
Small pinch of ground cloves
2 teaspoons confectioner's sugar, or to taste

Preparation
Butter four 8-ounce ramekins. In food processor, finely grind chocolate. Add butter and sugar and process until thoroughly combined. Add flour, 60ml of heavy cream, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, and cloves, and process until smooth.
Divide mixture evenly among ramekins and cover tightly with plastic wrap. (Batter can be made ahead and regfrigerated in ramekins, covered with plastic wrap, up to 6 hours.)

Leaving plastic wrap in place, microwave ramekins on high for 1 minute 20 seconds. Remove from microwave and pierce plastic wrap with tip of sharp knife. Cover each ramekin with heavy plate and let stand, steaming, 7 minutes.

While cakes are steaming, beat remaining 120ml cream in large bowl until foamy and slightly opaque. Add confectioner's sugar and beat until soft peaks form.

Remove plate and plastic wrap from each ramekin. Invert each cake onto individual serving plate and unmold. Top each with dollop of whipped cream, sprinkle with additional cinnamon, and serve.

Tip: These easy cakes can be assembled before sitting down to dinner, then microwaved as you put on the water to boil for coffee or tea.
