im just asking because it has just occured to me that i get loads of conflicting 'advise' from my interfering helpfull family and if i tried to please all of them i would be tying myself in knots.

luckily i dont try and please any one. i am happy with the diet my dds have and thats enough for me. however i think there is only my mum who agrees that they get a good varied diet and that im doing the right thing by them.

DH and my nan think that my 14 month old should still be offered baby mush - from a jar no less . and im sure mil would agree with that one if she knew we have stopped them completely.

mil and my dad think that i feed them too many sarnies which are in my dads words 'rubbish'. they get either cheese lettuce and onion, or tune and spring onion sarnies for lunch quite a lot but have a cooked meal at least once a day. mil thinks that sarnies dont equal 'proper' food - they are a snack apparently and if i dont have much time during the day there is always chicken nuggets and smiley faces (because they are loads better arent they?)

oh and my dad thinks that they get 'silly rubbish' for breakfast and should be having porridge, eggs or cereal. atm they are eating pancakes with fresh strawberries and nice healthy breakfast imo. but i know my family would think otherwise.

does any one else have a family that are so opinionated on what they feed thier dc's even though they are offered rubbish everytime they visit said relatives?

is this genuine or are you showing off at your kids healthy, super diet?

if it is genuine I can't imagine it being anyones business what you feed your kids

My family know better than to even venture an opinion (within my earshot at least) on any aspect of how I am bringing my daughter up. It is nothing to do with them, and I would have no hestitation in telling them as much.

Why are you taking any notice of them? Either smile, nod and ignore, or ask them to stop criticising you.

Got to say, though, that a bit of "rubbish" on occasion when they are visiting relatives doesn't hurt.

no they are not super healthy i have said loads of times on here before that they get rubbish at times. i have no problem with greggs, maccy d's or chicken nuggets so long as that is not all they get. the pancakes they are having this morning is only because i got strawbs cheap yesterday and they need using. dd1 cant have milk this morning as she has terrible car sickness and is going camping later.

i was just wondering if my family are the only ones that have strange ideas they like to inflict on me or if any one else has people constantly telling them that they are feeding thier dc's the wrong things all the time?

why are your family so involved in your parenting? do they do a lot of babysitting and so feel they are in a closer position to judge?

You're an adult; they can only "inflict" their ideas on you if you allow them to.

You are the one in charge of your children, not them - what does it matter what they think? They can't force you into anything.

yes they do babysit a lot. and i dont think they mean judge they are trying to be helpfull. dd1 has had problems with her eating in the past so i think that has made people feel that i need thier help and advise oon what she should be eating.

i dont take any notice of what they say i was just wondering if any one else had this to deal with as its seems gps and mils often have strange outdated ideas on how to feed children.

it does annoy me at times and at times i do get fustrated and argue back but usually i do just smile and nod and pretend that tommorrow i wont feed them any sandwhiches and they will have porridge at breakfast time.

right now it seems like im getting it from all angles as dh and i are disagreeing how dd2 should be fed. so its annoying me more than usual.

sorry, but I'd be grateful for the free babysitting, if it gets to you too much send the kids to childcare

So your real problem is that you and your dh disagree about how to feed the children.

That's the issue you should be addressing, not interfering families.

i am gratefull for the free babysitting, i dont need childcare i dont work but dd1 is a handfull to say the least and i get a lot of help with her.

dh just thinks that i should feed dd2 mush again as most of what he sees her eat ends up on the floor and he thinks she isnt getting enough. she likes to self feed, which imo is good and gets furstrated and throws food at you if you try and spoon feed her mush!

i walked out yesterday while trying to spoon feed her mush and went to rant at my parents where i got told by my dad that he agreed with dh and that they should be getting cooked food/baby jars and sarnies arent enough/are rubbish. and that dd2 should be given mush!

id like to see them eat it

DD2 is only 10mths and hasn't had bottle/jar food since she was about 7mths and eats what we do.

yesterday she had

7.30am - 6oz milk
8.am - cereal/toast
12.30pm - cheese sandwich,tom and crisps. friut
3pm - 5oz milk
5.30pm - Roast Lamb, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and veg followed youghat.
7.00pm - 7oz milk
11.00pm - 7oz milk
All of which was cut up into small peices and she feeds herself.

I would ignore all of this advice and carry on the way you are.
