oh god I do this kind of stuff.

can you stick them in the shed?

top tom soup recipe - 2 tins toms, 1 tin water, stock cube, 3 clvoes garlic, teaspoon sugar, simmer hour so so - blitz. Yum.

Not soup weather though.

Chuck an extra tin in everything you make (sauces etc) and freeze half.

I have more than 14 tins in. (BOGOF at tescos) They won't go off - stash 'em!

Hunter's chicken

But yes, just stash them for that post-apocalyptic tomato famine.

sounds like stashing them is the plan then, and then, as they as stashed in the shed, I will by more....!!!

lasagna is out now as I am milk allergic and am on a lasagna ban (I am mean....if I cannot eat it I will not cook it. especially lasagna as that is my (was) my fave meal!!!)

using them in cooked breakfasts could be a plan!

and what is hunters chicken???

Butter beans. Sainsbury's had a 3 tins for £1 on all their tinned beans (except kidney beans) for ages. I'd buy 2 tins of chick peas (which I use a lot) and then think, 'Hmm, butter beans would be handy.' When I finally sorted out the shelf I found 7 tins of butter beans lurking at the back.

Curry, chilli, pasta, stew, cooked breakfasts, soup. Almost everything I cook has tinned toms in it! I love it when they're 12p a tin! I have a fetish for them too. I love them with a fry up, except wierdly I love them COLD with a fry up. Best of all is fried egg and COLD tinned toms on toast-stems from a time long, long ago when i had a boyfriend in a caravan in Morecambe who had oly one burner working on his caravan stove plus the grill. We used the one gas ring to fry the egg and the grill to do the toast, then had to add the toms cold! I really aquired a taste for it; Dh gets well embarressed when I specify cold toms in cafes nowadays.

I went through a phrase of doing this with pine nuts - believe me, pine nuts are far less useful to stockpile than tinned toms. Then I did it with tuna, which is a bit more helful.

DH does it with dishwasher salt.

I use about 2 or 3 tins a week. We like tomato and bacon with pasta. I just add a bit of wine and bouillin to the tomatoes and any veg lying about. (and bacon obviously)

I realised I was turning into my mother when I kept buying 4 packs of tinned tomatoes 'in case of an emergency'. She used to do it with kidney beans though, which is worse in my view. I still think you can't have too many tins of tomatoes in your cupboard but what about making some batches of to sauce and freezing them for spag bol? Or making really thick stuff in case you decide to make pizza some time?

chuck 5 tins in a HUGE saucepan, add lots of veg (onion, carrots, swede, courgettes, anything really) two tins of water, cook till soft, blend till smooth, bag in portions, freeze.

I use it as a base for bolagnaise, put on pizza, put over fish, just by its self on pasta, meatballs, anything, its a great stand by in the freezer, a meal in minutes.
