Really bitter homemade houmous - did I use too much tahini or is it off?

I've never had this before - my houmous has a really bitter aftertaste. Tahini could have been kicking around for a while - it is just about edible but should I chuck it? Made it for today's lunch.

tahini isn't usually bitter - too much would make it cloying but not bitter.

can you bear to chuck it out?

OK, so it isn't too much then, it probably is the fact it has gone off.

I can't really bear to through it out BBB but perhaps I should - how awful would I feel if DD scoffed the lot (she loves it) and then was ill.

I completely understand wher you are coming from witht he throwing out thing - I am just the same.

I do not know about toxicity adn sesame seeds going off.

This is what I would do:

chuck in what you have of these:
drained tin of chick peas
pinch sugar
salt + pepper
lemon
lots of olive oil
lemon

blitz it and see what it tastes like

thanks BBB, that is exactly what I did. Shoved in everything I could think of - I think the salt and lemon juice did the trick. DD and her friends scoffed the lot for lunch and no reports of poorly tummies so far grin.

I have thrown out the tahini though.
