I'm confused - what is the difference in size between a cupcake and a "normal" fairy cake?

I'd like to make some nice big cupcakes, but will have to buy cake cases on-line and have no idea where to look, or which size these cup cases actually are.
I don't want to go buing the wrong size, so help!
ps any cupcake recipes would come in handy too grin

I would say that you make cupcakes in muffin size tins and cases.

Sorry, I don't have any recipes.

Happy baking!

Arnt fairy cakes where you slice the top off, put cream (or something) in the top, and then cut the top in half and put them back on like wings.
Iv just realised that they are maybe butterfly cakes? Are they? Is there such as thing as butterfly cakes? Have I made them
up? grin

I thought they were exactly the same but cupcakes was the American term which we had sort of adopted...

fairy cakes in my house are just small cakes with icing possibly with sprinkles on top.

200g sr flour
200g sugar
200g butter
4 eggs

Think this makes around 24 large cupcakes

I use muffin cases and just make sure you beat the sugar and butter really well untill it turns almost white in colour. Add beaten eggs slowly. Then flour a little at a time. Then 3/4 fill the cases being careful not to spill on paper.

Cook for arround 15-20 minutes at 180 drgs.
