Not one for the little ones due to salt content and general rubbish, but this is a guilty pleasure in our house and probably likely to prove a hit with teenagers: Noodles and Eggs
Fry loads of garlic in a bit of butter and oil. Add a packet of instant noodles per person (one blue dragon chicken and chilli and one won ton seems to be most popular round here, mushroom is also good)and slosh on lots of boiling water, no need to measure. Adjust flavouring with soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, black pepper. Crack eggs into the mixture and simmer until eggs are cooked however you like them. Give chilli fans a tube of instant chilli or some hot sauce to splash or squirt over before eating.
I used to love cooking before I had my LO's and would spend hours in the kitchen so was quite indignant when I asked dh which of my specialties he liked best and he thought for a bit and said "noodles and eggs"!!! My dad likes it too although he's only allowed it on special occasions...
My favourite comfort food is cheese and tomato rice which basically does what it says on the tin, or savoury rice gloop which involves mushrooms, onions, garlic, a tin of mushroom soup and lots of cheese and black pepper. You can add tinned asparagus if feeling extravagant. And curry powder if you're after a sort of veggie Chicken Divanish effect. I do it without the mushroom soup and with cream cheese for ds and he's pretty keen.
Oh and if I'm ill, instant mashed potato with cheese, peas and a poached egg does the trick for me.
Hope my mother isn't reading this...
