I am doing lamb shanks for our dinner and it says cover withstock to cook. I don't want to use stock, do I have too or what else can I use? I have put some red onions and carrots under the meat.

Ooo, I have some merlot. Would that be criminal to cook with? Sounds delish.

savoycabbage Thu 10-Jul-08 17:55:12

I would say red wine too.

McDreamy Thu 10-Jul-08 17:55:17

Sounds great , was once told you shouldn't cook with anything you wouldn't be prepared to drink! smile

itati Thu 10-Jul-08 17:56:10

Okay. Merlot it is. How much?

McDreamy Thu 10-Jul-08 17:56:50

itati Thu 10-Jul-08 17:58:32

Would probably put a fair amount in there unless you are cooking them in a slow cooker.

itati Thu 10-Jul-08 18:20:23

Damn, didn't think of the slow cooker. They are in the oven and I have put about a glass full. Not enough?

McDreamy Thu 10-Jul-08 18:21:48

Maybe a little more? Keep an eye on it and top up if neccessary I reckon.

Just checked and poured more on. I would need 2-3 bottles to completely cover them. shock

You could add water too - doesn't need to be 100% vino grin. Got any bay leaves to flavour it up a bit?

itati Thu 10-Jul-08 18:51:03

Will add water if needed next time. No bay leaves, not something I have bought since DS1 was 1.

Thanks for all your help.

It was delicious. grin
