7 month DD only eating fruit - help

My DD has been on solids for 10 weeks and will only eat fruit purees, nothing savoury. She weaned exactly the same as her twin brother and used to take a spoonful of butternut squash but refuses anything else (other than sucking dry toast). Have tried hiding veggies, chicken, lentils etc in her fruit but to no avail. I have offered her finger foods like carrot which she sucks on and then discard. HV says I must always offer her the same as her brother (who is a great eater) but it really distresses her and I don't want her to hate mealtimes.

Any advice anyone? Mealtimes with the two are so difficult and I am really struggling!

Thanks

Delilah, my DTs are 11 months. I had a stage where DT1 (girl) stopped eating anything but fruit. I jut kept offering her whatever I gave DT2 and if that didn't work well I blitzed up root veg (carrots, parsnips etc) in lots of apple, pear or melon. I overloaded it with the fruit and gradually brought the fruit content down. Does she like sweet potato? I added that and slowly she came back round to the idea of savoury foods. 7 months seems young for finger foods as all mine did was suck them, but it was good for them to have food to play with. Don't worry darling, she'll come round. Do you give them from frais? You can mix food in that as well. Let me know how it's going and if you want to CAT me then do. It does get easier, it really does. I'm only a few months ahead of you.

i don't have twins but had a similar experience where my DD would only eat fruit. I gave her sweet potato with a pinch of cinnamon (A Karmel) then added the tiniest bit of carrot/swede/parsnip at a time and gradually built it up. I did the same with the other sweeter root veg. B4 they know it they are eating just veg. I think you should eventually try to get them to eat the same (for ease really) but they are individuals and dd might need a little extra encouragement. Good luck

Thank you both so much for that - it is so good to know things will change. I do add carrot etc sometimes but I think I will try to be more aware of proportion of fruit to veg. I just end up chucking stuff together cos I am preparing two different meals for DT's! Feel crappy and to blame anyway because DS is breast fed and DD bottle fed (just finished my nightly express in balmy Australia visiting husbands family). I wonder if she would eat better if had been only fed breastmilk? Guess I will never know!

Thanks again. Oh, one more thing, when does that lack of protein become critical?

I didn't add protein for a couple of months I think that they were about 8 or 9 months when I did. Then I did AK's first chicken casserole. btw I wouldn't bother doing 2 separate meals. When DT1 refused to eat what I fed her brother I just fed them both the same. He's such a good eater that he wasn't bothered. Don't make more stress for yourself no matter what anyone else says. The point is that they are eating and will continue to eat. Also, don't waste energy feeling crappy. The babies are thriving and you're doing well.

Thanks Buttonmoon and woodpops - had thought to do this but not sure if it worked and thanks too munchedtoomanymarslady, hv freaked me out when I phoned her for advice and she told me they should be on two meals with protein a day!! Mind you, my hopes were not high, have onlt had two contacts/visits from different hv in two months. Advice from real mummys so much more comforting.
