Chick peas? Beans?

Weaned my DS at 4.5 months and want to add a bit of protein to his diet, although I'd like to hold off with meat for just a bit longer (hes 6 months now) cant seem to find any info on whether chick peas would be ok to give? Anyone else used them?

I'd recommend leaving them a little while. I'd go for fish myself - although I'm veggie my girls do have fish. Once your ds is used to dairy fish in cheese sauce goes dowm well, as does fish mixed with sweet potato. Hummus is supposed to be good for babies although neither of my two touch it! Babies do find pulses hard to digest so putting them through a mouli might be an idea, and serve them at lunch time not dinner time.

I weaned at 6mths and gave chickpeas at 8mths. Both loved it. It's so funny to smell the garlic on a baby's breath!!

Ds is 5 1/2 months & loves hummus...has also been known to nibble on the occasional kidney bean.

Why are you assuming Harrysmom is being caned, essbee?

Mashed chick peas are a great protein source for little ones. I gave my girls beans and lentils before meat, and they still love them.

Red lentils are an easy bean-type-food to introduce, as they're already skinned, if you see what I mean.

All the ones with skins are pretty high-fibre and hence maybe a bit much for smaller babies.

he didn't like the chick peas, (I see what u mean about the skins) but red lentils went down a treat!
