Start using Mumsnet Premiumbaby wont eat
(8 Posts)hi all mums, just wondering if anyone has any advice or has experienced their 11 month old completely given up on food. My baby boy would eat anything at all from 6 months through to about 9 1/2 months. For the past month or so he has completely flipped a switch and wouldnt take food from me. Have tried finger foods and letting him get his hands dirty but everything is either gagged or thrown away. Not taking much milk either. The doctors and HV have been an absolute joke and wont come out to check him due to covid. Really struggling and concerned for his weight as his clothes that were skin tight are now baggy on him. Please if anyone has any info I would be ao grateful
If your baby has lost that much weight from not eating/drinking and GP will not see I would take him to hospital to be honest.
finally getting the HV out tomorrow, if unhappy with them just going to go to A n E
Try contacting Charlotte Stirling Reed - she’s a nutritionist who specialises in child nutrition and might be able to help
Have you tried making a mix of foods on a large plate as though it's for you and eating next to your baby showing how tasty food is?
Everytime I wanted mine to try new things I found they were more interested if it was on my plate and they had an option of trying a smaller bit.
I would take all pressure away and go for some basic options initially (e.g. cooked carrot sticks, banana, mango) and build other flavours in.
had hv call me today and is finally coming to do a weight check. she said same as yourself avtually about offering some foods from my plate. it has helped a little today. hv told me to drop his afternoon bottle so he is just getting 1 bottle at night and 1 in morning so hopegully he will be hungrier for the food. thank u for your advice any info im thankful for as1st time mum during lockdown, only had hv down twice when my wee boy was 1st born xx
Paediatrics would see a baby if loosing weight from not drinking and eating enough. If HV doesn’t help then push for a gp appointment and then push for a referral to your local paediatrics team.

^This. No baby should be losing weight. If he is you should be referred immediately.
