Start using Mumsnet PremiumI forgot to put jam on Christmas cake before marzipan...
(6 Posts)...Will it matter? The cake looks fine and tbh, I’ll probably pick the marzipan off the cake anyway.
I could carefully remove the marzipan and reapply with after jamming?
wwyd?
It'll be fine, unless you're planning on tossing it in the air 🤷🏻♀️ it'll prob fall off when you cut it though.
I put so much spiced rum in my cakes I didn't need jam....oops!!
Well impressed with your marzipan!
It will be fine, it just means the marzipan might detach when you cut it. But if you don't like marzipan that's a win. Don't forget to let it dry out a few days before icing. Home made marzipan tends to be more oily than shop bought, and it will stain the icing otherwise (apologies if you already know this.)
Thanks for replies. I’ll leave it as it is. I am drying the marzipan out (cakes covered with a clean tea towel for a few days). I’m not keen on shop bought marzipan generally so decided to make my own using this recipe.
I never use jam. I just brush the marzipan with water. The shop-bought stuff is usually sticky enough.
