Anyone fancy sharing their favourite dal? I have come to the conclusion that I would like to eat it every single day.

I made this one with mung beans a few days ago (exactly as the recipe but added a large handful of red lentils ten minutes before the end) and really enjoyed it...

This aubergine dal is a favourite here too...

And for super easy...

Ooh... aubergine one looks nice, might leave out the apricots though as i imagine they add a fair bit of sweetness?

Aubergine one looks amazing. I like Meera Sodha's Sri Lankan dhal with lime-spiked greens: www.vegansociety.com/get-involved/campaigns/plate-planet/recipes/dinner/sri-lankan-dal-coconut-and-lime-kale

this one is incredible (that'll be the heap of butter & cream in it, I suppose) dishoom dal

I wish I had this problem. I've never made a Dahl that didn't taste like nothing.

This is absolutely delicious.

One thing to be aware of in the recipe, reduce both the cooking time and the amount of water you use to cook the lentils - far to long/too much liquid.

Lovely thread.

Nothing to contribute, but will enjoy looking at the suggestions.

The dishoom daal mentioned by a previous poster is divine! I found it hard to get black lentils (also known as urad daal) but found them in a Chinese supermarket.

Believe it or not I’ve just made this following the recipe exactly - wish I’d read Pomegranate’s post first though, she’s right there’s far too much liquid!. I’ve drained most of it away and it will just about do.
I’m quite fond of the all in one nigella spiced tomato dahl in The Quick Roasting Tin book

this is our favourite recipe - a big hit with the family.
See the link to the fast Naan bread at the bottom - also delicious. I will never buy the supermarket crap Naan again Grin

I've been using the Tesco dhal recipe since a previous MN dhal-love thread.

realfood.tesco.com/recipes/coconut-dhal.html

It's perfectly decent and very easy, but I'm definitely up to try more.

I think I used half the tomatoes & coconut milk (replaced with water?) when I made in bulk, just because I didn't have enough. Still nice but I daresay could have been better.

I really like the coconut and cashew daal from the original Lean in 15 book. I don't make the cashew cream though, I just chop them up!

I'll enjoy checking out these suggestions, I love daal.
