What veggie stuff can I take to work in a food flask?

Obvious things like leftover chilli/curry/soup.
What else?
Would porridge work?
Pasta, or would it go soggy?
Rice pudding topped with stewed fruit might be nice?
What else could I cook the day before and just heat up in the morning?

Do you have access to a kettle? I like a do it yourself pot noodle done in my food flask.
I like the idea of taking porridge,but haven't tried it.
Where I work we are told we shouldn't use the kitchen and I have been taking sandwiches and such and flasks of tea.
As the weather gets colder though other options might be needed especially as some shifts are 11 hours. (Covid has stopped that for now, but not forever)

Chickpea tagine - it keeps well in the fridge for a few days (the flavours actually improve) and I take along a flatbread or pitta to eat with it.
Tuscan bean stew (with a ciabatta roll taken separately)
Falafel
Fried rice
Risotto
Ramen noodles

Second all the curry ideas mentioned. With regards to pasta, I Tortelloni with pesto and some spinach/veg of choice work really well in a food flask, as does macaroni cheese. My 2 dc and I started using food flasks for school and work last year. It's so satisfying to have hot home cooked food at lunchtime.

Porridge works really well in a flask just make sure it's still a bit runny when you put it in as it keeps thickening while it's in the flask.

I like putting apple chunks, sultanas and cinnamon in my porridge.

Vegetable casserole is another good one.

couscous with veg and chickpeas, noodles with veg, lentil sloppy joes and take tortillas with you, soups, lentil spag bol, rice salad.

I'm getting ready to go back to work and we're not allowed to use the microwaves and like to have a hot lunch

It's based on this DIY pot noodle but tbh I usually just use spring onions, frozen peas, noodles, marigold powder, marinated tofu and take a little pot of sriracha.

You could also make overnight oats.Just use the ratio of 1 portion oats and 2 portions milk .You can just prep it and leave it in the fridge at the beginning of the week .(though probs best to not prep too much as not sure about hygiene) :)

Jacket potato and beans? Add cheese if you eat it.

I use frozen mash because it is so much quicker. Just season to taste.

I don't eat baked beans or frozen mash, so that's out, I'm afraid. Would've been super-easy!

I do quite like the idea of a homemade pot noodle, although it's unlikely I'll want to faff around making spice pastes the evening before, so it would need to be a lazy recipe.

I follow the river garden pot noodle recipe, but in a sistema soup mug.

As soon as lunch starts, I put the water on (don't add too much) and leave with the snap bit shut for 5 mins. Give it a little shake and leave for a few minutes more.

Best curry ever is a can of chick peas, some curry paste and a scoop of mango chutney, plus a squirt of ketchup. You can add spinach, onion etc if you want to get fancy but there is no need. One tin would make two lunches and it’s satisfying and really tasty.

I think you could buy the packets of ramen (from a Chinese supermarket ideally) and put that plus some chopped veg into a flask then just add hot water. We do that a lot at home and it’s delicious and quick. I think the noodles would probably survive just fine for a few hours.

Pasta would be ok, I think - can’t see why it would go soggy.

I make a nice lentil bolognaise with soya mince which would be good too with a bread roll or similar.

Also watching with interest as I’m after interesting lunch ideas. It’s all well and good for the government to tell me to go back to the office to save the economy but most places selling lunch near my office are shut at the moment so...packed lunches it is.

Pasta tends to absorb the sauce and go mushy. I would take sayce in the food flask, and cooled cooked pasta in a separate box. Mix when you are ready to eat.

Veg rice (pilaf, Mexican etc) would work great. You could carry a small pot of plain yogurt to go with. Or plain rice mixed with curry/ dahl.

Cous cous, quinoa - pack them warm with dressing/ flavouring. Take salad mix-ins separately.

Has anyone mentioned thick chunky soup?

I only use frozen mash because its quick but I'm sure normal baked potatoes would work too.

Pepe - thanks. I do a very similar chickpea curry, but with toasted coconut and a bit of natural yoghurt.

I’ve seen people with a full cooked breakfast in a food flask - so I’m assuming pretty much anything works tbh, lol

Some sort of fine noodles, the rice ones cook really quick, but I prefer the egg ones.
I can't remember if it's sainsbury or tesco that do them in little round nests which are ideal for shoving into a flask.
I have never bothered with the paste, I am sure it's great though.Grin
