Lemon drizzle, messed up?

My 6 yo is baking a lemon drizzle cake. Only realised When we put it in the oven he put the lemon juice in the mixture rather than pouring over the top after. Currently baking. Is it doomed?

Do you have extra lemon for the drizzle? Not ruined at all

Is the drizzle not just lemon juice and sugar?

It will be fine, the cake will taste more lemony! You just need more lemon juice and sugar for the drizzle

Yes, it says top with granulated sugar and pour on juice.

Thank you for your help Flowers

other recipes I've seen say to mix the sugar with lemon juice first. Poke holes in the sponge when its still warm in the tin then pour the drizzle over

As someone who hates lemon drizzle because the cake is never lemony enough I think you just won baking.

When I make lemon Drizzle the recipe I use has lemon juice in the cake mixture and drizzled on top.

It turned out absolutely delicious, in spite of having to use icing sugar for the topping and plain flour plus baking powder as out of sr flour, and no mixer.

It was this recipe from Mary Gwynn, with the called for juice in the cake and then more for the icing.

DS is absolutely thrilled with himself.

I saw a few recipes that used icing sugar too. Glad it turned out delicious
