Which seaweed?

I’d really like to eat more seaweed as I’ve read there is an association with strengthened immune system (Wakame) and decreased breast cancer risk (nori). (Being a middle aged woman with lung problems both these health benefits seem very desirable right now!)

Being new to this though I’m wondering how to go about it. Are sheets best, or flakes? Green, or toasted? Seaweed salad? (And if so what do you dress it with?)

Any particular brand? (I’ve found Clearspring miso is great: are they good for seaweed too?)

How do Japanese people traditionally tend to get seaweed in the diet? Are there any pointers, tips?

In Korea, seaweed soup is served on birthdays and for every meal (I mean every, including breakfast) to a newly postpartum female. If you'd like to attempt it, here is a decent recipe.

Dried are best for salads and soups. Flakes are for rice seasoning, and seaweed salad is from a kind of dried seaweed. Sheets are used to wrap rice. No particular brand. In terms of how seaweed is added to the diet, Usually it is in the version of a square used to season soups, which are served at every meal.

Your best bet for variety is to go to a Korean or Japanese grocery store.

Laverbread is amazing. Even if it don't live in Wales, it's possible to buy it from most good fishmongers. It's delicious mixed with a few oats and cooked in little patties. I love it with egg but DH has it with bacon which is more traditional I think. We had it for breakfast this morning Smile

Just be mindful about how much you eat - seaweed is high in iodine and regularly having too much of that can be harmful
