Oven broken - ideas for hob cooking please

My oven has broken and can't get it fixed/replaced until next week.

This is a major issue as everything I cook seems to be in the oven. Can anyone think of anything I can cook on the hob that still has loads of flavour? Only thing we don't eat is eggs.

We've had spaghetti & meatballs, chilli and soup already, and stir fry.
I'm at a loss, can't believe I cook so much in the oven!

Lamb shanks cooked down in the pot with onion, garlic, half a small jar of anchovies and a large spoon of crushed allspice and a squeeze of tomato puree and a teaspoon of sugar. ...serve with rice and salad it's my own invention and v tasty.

I think we're opposites, I hardly ever use the oven and I love cooking on the hob!

Curry and rice, whatever kind you like. Naan breads can be done on the grill if that works, or heated in a dry frying pan for a few minutes if not.

Creamy leek and mustard chicken, served with mashed potatoes and green beans.

Chicken noodle soup

Shakshuka

Fry up, or bacon/sausage butties

Cous cous salady things. You wouldn't even need the hob for that, the cous cous can be done in a bowl with boiling water/stock, then covered until the liquid has absorbed.

My current favourite is a sort-of Mediterranean stew. Fry off some garlic and onion, then add a tin of chickpeas, tin of tomatoes, whatever other veg you have (I like courgettes and red peppers), about 1 tbsp of ras el hanout spice mix, some chopped black olives and preserved lemon, if you have it. If not, add some lemon juice.

Ah, I didn't notice you don't eat eggs, so not shakshuka then. But you could do a similar sauce, add chicken and feta, and serve with flatbread.

Moroccan chicken casserole, fry onion and loads of garlic, then add two teaspoons cumin, coriander, cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon paprika and turmeric, cook with a bit of water to stop sticking, then add chicken stock, 4 chopped chicken breasts, two chopped peppers and simmer till cooked. Add a good handful of fresh chopped mint, and about 50 gms toasted pinenuts about ten mins before finished.

Most pasta dishes are done just using the hob as are most Indian and Chinese recipes. You could also do risotto, paella, sausage and mash with onion gravy, Irish stew, beef bourgignon. You can cook steaks of all kinds on a dry frying pan if your grill also isn’t working. Poached chicken is nice and goes a long way.

Thank you so much for all the ideas - they sound amazing.

I'm shopping tomorrow so will meal plan for the week based on the above. I'm hungry now!

Have you got a Le Creuset or similar cast iron casserole, they work well on the hob for stews with beef, lamb chops, chicken legs etc etc.

Or perhaps you could borrow a slow cooker?

Other meal ideas are sausages & mash, buy a cooked chicken and use to make salad or chicken in white wine sauce with rice, paella, beef or mushroom stroganoff with rice.

Got Le Creuset and a slow cooker - can't believe I forgot about that!

I'm used to just prepping and putting in the oven and forgetting about it. I shall try the Le Creuset on the hob.

I'm now quite excited for this week, it'll be nice trying out dishes I never usually cook!
