I have always wanted an IP and just ordered one from Amazon!
What do you make in yours?

I have a pressure king pro rather than an IP but I will be paying the extra for the IP once this one dies.

I use it for everything. I make soup and casseroles, pasta dishes, roast beef etc.

I tried making ribs in it but I prefer doing them in the slow cooker than the pressure cooker.

I have the PKP and like it for cooking the dogs food in.
But I’ve only had it 2 years and the digital display is already faulty.
I’m hoping the IP lasts longer! I need to find lots of recipes to try.

There's probably Facebook groups and reddit subs.

We've just got a ninja foodi and I'm new to the world of pressure cooking

@Myshitisreal oh I hadn’t thought of Facebook groups. I wonder if there is an official Instant Pot one. I’ll go and have a look.
Thanks for the idea.

Amazing porridge, stewed fruit, great for stews, mashed potato. Haven't branched out yet.

Thanks for the Facebook group recommendation.
I joined the U.K. IP group and there are loads of recipes there too.
On the IP box it mentioned an IP app to download that has lots of recipes too, so I’ll try that.

@MadauntofA I didn’t know you could make porridge in it! We love porridge, so I’ll definitely be doing that.

I’ve seen people make cakes, yogurts and all sorts in it.

Do porridge in mine nearly every day - have to do it pot in pot method though 😉.

Facebook group is very good for ideas too.

Risotto is brilliant in it.

@Thecatisboss I adore risotto, so can’t wait to try it for that. I’m worried about the rice sticking to the bottom of the pot though!

Porridge every day (pot in pot, as Thecatisboss says)
Fabulous risottos
Curries
Soups
Stews
Rice pudding

Have never understood the cheesecake fascination, but my friend tried the salted caramel one last week and said it was fantastic, so might give that a go at some point.

I love this cookbook, so many easy, delicious recipes. I made the Chicken Curry Soup last night for dinner and it's always a big hit. It's supposedly a Keto cookbook, but I don't care about that. I bought it because a family member told me how good the recipes are.

@Whitney168 and @Thecatisboss what does pot in pot mean? I need to get up to date on all the IP lingo!

Husband will love the rice pudding suggestion.

@Aquamarine1029 thanks, they look like the kinds of things my family really likes.

I’m trying to make more plant based recipes, and I’ve heard the IP makes cooking beans and lentils from dried really easy.

Op, your best bet for learning how to use your IP is YouTube. There are endless videos and recipes for anything you can think of.

There's a lot on YouTube too - I got mine at Christmas.

I use it as a pressure cooker for soups and stews, I have done a gammon joint in it but my favourite recipe is risotto - just put it all in and no stirring!

Yep, I use pot in pot method for porridge- 1 cup water in the bottom, put in your trivet and then a glass bowl with oats and milk/ water. I use steel cut oats which usually need ages on the stove, cook on high pressure for 12mins. I switch it on as I making my morning cuppa, and by the time I have showered/ changed, it is perfect - keeps warm for a while. The glass bowl needs washing, but the instant pot inner just needs the water tipping out and left to drain. No saucepan to scrub!!

There’s an official Facebook group for UK users. Pot in pot is when you cook something in a pot or bowl within the pot itself.

I’ve got two, an 8l and a 3l. The 3l is great for rice or small portions, my son uses it for his work lunches if he fancies pasta.

Stews are lovely when made in it, I occasionally make a cheesecake and the yoghurt is amazing. I’ve seen recipes on the Facebook page for fudge so I want to try that.

I love that you can just put the ingredients in, switch it on and go and do something else while it’s cooking and our utility bills decreased because I rarely use the hob or oven now.

I also do a few slow cook type meals - 3-4hrs on high slow cook converts to roughly 30mins, but there are conversion tables on line

Crabbo · 15/06/2020 19:09

We use ours for everything - hardly cook anything on the hob now. Stews, chilli, curry, bolognese... It’s also really good for cooking dried beans quickly. You can also use it for rice if you don’t have a rice cooker.

Has anyone made a dal using Toor dal in the instant pot? That's why I bought it In the first place as the lid looked safer (I bought a metal pressure cooker and started to cook with it and it was so scary I put it in the bin there and then!) but the recipe I have for the toor dal won't work with the instant pot I think, as I think things cook for less time than a conventional one'd?

@Aquamarine1029 and @iwantmyownicecreamvan yes, I’m heading to YouTube tomorrow to get recipes. They all seem to be American though. Not that it makes a difference, I just wonder if the IP is more popular there.

@MadisonAvenue I’m hoping to see a reduction in my utility bills too.
You seem like a pro at IP’ing, I hope I get to grips with it soon.

@Crabbo nice to know about the rice, we eat a lot of it.

Very excited about the idea of a no stir risotto!
