Apple cake - can I use eating apples (instead of cooking apples)?

Just that, really! And if I do, should I not put as much sugar in? And if so, how much should I reduce it to?

Thank you, wise and knowledgeable cooks! 😊

You can, I've got a recipe in one of my books that uses eaters. No idea where said book is unfortunately but I've definitely made a decent cake using eating apples in the past.

Yes, we didn't reduce the sugar at all

Just cut down the sugar a bit.

Yes, I often use eating apples for apple cake as that's all we have in.

Granny Smith's are lovely for cooking

Yes, for cake it's fine. Not so good for a pie or crumble though for which, of course, you need the beautiful Bramley.

Thank you. 😊

I baked one yesterday - only had eating apples - it was fine.

Eating apples are good for cake as they don't go mushy.

This is a favourite in our house and I cut the sugar to 150g with eating apples
