Leftovers question

Sorry if this is a very stupid question but I genuinely don't know the answer. With "leftovers", usually I will double a recipe and serve our portions then save the rest. But if I eat half of what's on my plate, can I then put the restin a bowl and reheat them for lunch tomorrow (for me only if that makes a difference re: germs!) Or is the fact I've been eating around the food and therefore has my germs on it, it's no longer safe to save?

Like I said, it might be a very stupid question but I genuinely don't know!!!

No question is stupid if you don't know the answer.

I do this regularly. Eyes bigger than my belly, so tomorrow's lunch is sorted.
I wouldn't give it to anyone else though.

If batch-cooking, I separate the extra into containers ready for freezing when cold.

Brilliant, thank you!! I thought so but wasn't sure

I felt like I was asking one of those things everyone knows 🙈

I prefer to just serve out a smaller portion then decide once I've eaten that whether to eat the rest straight away or stick it in the fridge for tomorrow.

We often do this, so will scoop a couple of uneaten meatballs into Tupperware or a decent uneaten bit of chicken or meat. It’s fine. Been doing it for years. Only to feed ourselves though,

If it’s off my plate and I’ll have it for lunch at work tomorrow (for example) then I’d go for it. It I wouldn’t want food that DH or dc hadn’t finished the night before for my lunch.

I tend to serve smaller portions and leave some in the the pot if people want more than the other way round.

I did this today for my 8 month old DS. I didn't think I was being lax but maybe I am!

I am massively overcautious with food hygiene/reheating/leftovers and can't think why this wouldn't be ok..

In fact I've done it this evening!

Thanks all, I will bear this in mind next time my eyes are bigger than my belly!
