What can I do with a ginormous cabbage?

I ordered a small cauliflower and the farmshop has accidentally sent me the world's biggest Savoy cabbage Grin

Unfortunately I have the world's smallest fridge in a tiny London kitchen and it doesn't even fit in it without removing a shelf. Even if it did, it would leave no room for the rest of my delivery.

Anyone have any good ideas for how to store the monster and recipes to use it up? I have a tiny bit of space in the freezer.

This recipe springs to mind www.waitrose.com/home/recipes/recipe_directory/s/savoy-cabbage-bakewithtaleggiothymehazelnutcrumbs0.html
Colcannon or bubble and squeak
It also goes well with white fish www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/one-pot-cabbage-beans-white-fish and I often use colcannon as a topping for fish pie.
Jamie Oliver has a recipe for a soup which uses savoy realfood.tesco.com/recipes/pearl-barley-and-chorizo-soup.html

lots of different dishes? Stir fried cabbage is nice, bubble and squeak, you can make coleslaw with savoy cabbage. Make some sauerkraut or kimchi? stuffed cabbage leaves.

So some raw, some cooked and some preserved...

I think it will keep ok for a while out of the fridge, if you can find somewhere reasonably cool.

Funny enough I saw a vid on YouTube this morning that I want to try out.

Chop up 1/2 cabbage and 1 onion, whisk 3 eggs, seasoning, 80g flour. Combine all in bowl.
Add mix to pan, fry for 10 to 15 mins, flip and fry other side, add grated cheese . A Polish recipe.

This using Savoy cabbage is lovely! Or braised in tomato sauce with bacon, or pork meatballs.

The most delicious cabbage I've ever eaten was halved and simply roasted with butter, olive oil, salt, pepper. Roast until tender and browned with little charred edges, turn halfway through, add a splash of water if it's drying out.

We had a spicy bubble and squeak last night with cabbage and tonight planning salmon with cabbage - marinated fish with stir fried greens, which is lovely, one of the hairy dieters recipes.

my flat mate used to make the following. Boil potatoes, mice and savoy cabbage until soft. Blend until a smooth brown sludge and serve with apple sauce. It was surprisingly... edible

Pan fry in butter with streaky bacon and pepper and add a slosh of double cream towards the end

Sauerkraut or pickle

Nigel Slater has a green coconut curry recipe in his summer greenfeast book which calls for spring greens but I’ve used shredded savoy in its place as it was all I had to hand and it was lovely

Cabbage is so versatile I would add to many things like stew or curry, or stir fries. Also shredded thinly for salad, or make a rolled stuffed cabbage, or quick picked cabbage.

Thanks, everyone! I just thought of crispy seaweed, which is one of my favourite things so some of it will be used for that. I shall try some of your recipes, they all sound delicious, except perhaps Brunelofbrio's flatmates's boiled mice brown sludge Grin

I don't have any mice anyway, although we are visited by a tame squirrel we have named Terry. He's too cute to eat but, come to think of it, he might enjoy the outer leaves.

I do something similar, but I package up the cabbage in foil packets smeared with garlic butter salt and pepper and the I put on a grill pan (can also be BBQ'd) until it is charred. I cut it like thick steaks for this.
