Mucky mix tea??

This isn't a recipe but a question really, so tonight 'it's time' for a mucky mix tea. Basically anything in the fridge going out of date is put on the table, so yoghurts, fruit, meat, veg and we all pick. We've got bacon open and some cobs to eat up so will all eat them first probably and then a load of apples and some rice pudding and baby cucumbers. I personally think it's a good idea to use up food and we look forward to a mucky mix tea but what about everyone else??

I plan meals in advance so don't tend to end up with bits left over

but we do all love a choosing meal

'Mucky mix tea' sounds grim. Could you not just have a look at what you have and make something appetising like bacon rolls with sliced apples in yoghurt for dessert?

I do this for myself but DS and DH would balk. I quite often make my lunch out of all the bits from the fridge when we're having a 'fend for yourself' day. I like the term fridge tapas. My mom used to make 'garbage can soup' out of the stuff that was going off. It was usually very grim. Shudder.

My Dad used to do ABC dinners - All Bits Combined

Could be in an omelette, in sauce with pasta or rice, in a casserole/soup with bread, chucked in a dish with mash on top

He never revealed everything that was in it...!

We used to call this a picniccy tea when my DC were young.

Fridge tapas sounds great! Might have a rename there!!!

It was beaut, bacon cobs, cucumber sticks, a scone, crumpets, muller rice, blueberries

Cat had the rest of the ham cut up

Fridge is nice and empty, ready for a shop 😋

My husband would love to do this. I would cry and probably leave him. I am really good at planning so nothing goes to waste (unlike the aforementioned husband) but I hate all those disparate components. Can my DH move in with you? He would bloody love you.

That's a buffet tea where I am.

We plan our meals but sometimes bacon can be left over, ham doesn't all get eaten and the kids decide they don't like the apple flavoured muller rice anymore, blueberries were a nice surprise to find, forgot we even bought them 😂😂😂 We all have full tummies, money has been well spent, surely it's better than the bin??

I'll have to politely decline another husband, my hubby's PMS is enough to put me off men in general 😂😂😂

Leftover bacon? What is this?

It sounds like that leftover wine that people pretend to have.

For us that’s a “fridge picnic“ if it ends up mostly cold/sandwich type stuff, or “hotchpotch supper“ if it’s mostly heated leftovers. Honestly OP, the idea is all good (we also plan but toddlers are random and sometimes eat loads, sometimes naff all so end up with leftovers) but I would definitely reconsider the name!

Fridge tapas is brilliant, I feel posh😂😂😂

We love chicken/lamb/beef/gammon/ (basically any of the roast meats!!) left over with gravy, veg, stuffing. That chicken (or whatever meat) surprise or we have it rolled in a Yorkshire pudding but it will get flicked off the plate by hubby and ds as they will want to save it for pudding with jam, I always save mine anyway so then we end up with Yorkshire jam roly poly. We don't eat potatoes in our house so we have double of something else!!

Bacon usually won't go unnoticed but I found it right at the back hiding 😡 naughty pig (or peppa as dh likes to call bacon 🙈🙈🙈) xxxx

I rarely have leftovers as I’m greedy
But in our house we call it “and that’s what I got in the fridge” to be said in a Deep South accent. Which was an in joke from uni I’ve forgotten the source of

Mucky mix tea sounds nearly as awful as picky tea.
