Has anyone used fizzy drinks instead of eggs in cakes?

We are out of eggs and I am looking for alternatives to bake a cake. I have just googled it and found recommendations of using lemonade/sprite instead of eggs! Normally I would experiment, but don't want to waste flour! Has anyone tried it? Smile

I don't see how it could possibly provide the structure that egg does.

Yes! My children are egg allergic. I bake with fizzy drinks all the time. It works surprisingly well.

NO! Never heard of it. I have used apple sauce, mashed banana and aquafaba (the liquid you find in tins of chickpeas)as an egg substitute.

There is another egg alternative of flaxseeds, but haven't used that one.

@Hazelnutlatteplease I haven't tried with sparkling water but I think it would work.

Banana works really well as an egg substitute too, but the cake does tend to have quite a banana flavour to it. The family is a bit divided on those cakes!

Eh? How on earth would that work?

Try it Smile

I haven't baked a cake with eggs in for a decade now. I remember when my son was first diagnosed with egg allergy thinking an egg free cake would be impossible!

I used to be sceptical, but you can bake perfectly good cakes without eggs. Just google any vegan cake recipe.

I've seen it recommended on social media. Seems to be popular in the US but you basically cook a box cake mix with full fat pop like Sprite or Fanta.

I once made a great chocolate cake using a can of coke - honestly!

Baking soda and oil make good eggless cakes. This vegan orange cake is delicious.

This article is also handy as it has lots of ideas for cakes with crucial ingredients missing.

I believe you can make a cake without eggs.

I believe you can make a cake using fizzy drinks as an ingredient.

I cannot see how one could possibly be a substitute for the other?

Yeah I've heard of it, using box came mixes and then adding lemonade instead of eggs and water. Give it a try

Yes Betty Crocker cake mix and fizzy pop were a life saver when dd2 was being breastfed and I had to be dairy, egg, soy free as she was allergic.

This eggless cake turns out beautifully. Not made the vegan ganache, I just use double cream.
