Does anyone actually freeze rice

I mean I've read all the websites which say you can and I've bought frozen rice and the like from Tesco but I'm a bit sceptical about doing it myself. I'd rather not give anyone food poisoning.
Now obviously if you have and you're replying you've not had food poisoning but how did it turn out and would you do it again?

You'd have to cook the rice first and allow it to cool (dodgy enough) I wouldn't advise it.
Every food hygiene course I have ever been in swear that re heating rice is just not worth the risk.

I tried it once - my hand slipped when I was pouring rice into boiling water & I hate wasting food !
I spread it out thinly & cooled rapidly before freezing.
It was OK when re-heated, but not really worth doing as it's so quick & easy to cook.

I have, when there was a lot left over after a big do.
Froze it in meal-sized quantities and used it (thawed) for e.g. Thai style chicken fried rice. Rice for that needs to be pre cooked and cold anyway.
It would really have grieved me to bin it - IMO wasting food is obscene.

I do it all the time. Just cook as normal a then freeze when cook. I usually defrost by pouring boiling water over it (in a sieve) and then putting it in the microwave.

We do but it always goes into w stir fry type thing in a nice hot pan. DH is a chef so I trust his judgement.

I freeze leftovers so I often have one-person portions of pilau rice or fried rice in the freezer, brought back to life by a whizz in the microwave.
Can be very handy for quick meals!

As above poster. I freeze cooked rice as part of a meal for microwaving later all of the time. No fannying about spreading it out etc. Just spoon it into containers. I am not dead yet.

I put it straight into cold water to cool it quickly then reheat throughly. We have survived

It can go very chewy if cooking from frozen. You have to add quite a bit of water before microwaving or it’s horrible.

Not frozen as such but my parents reheated rice once and were both hospitalised with food poisoning. I wouldn't risk it.

I have frozen rice loads of times, both made by myself and egg fried rice from the takeaway. Just put in a microwaveable bowl, add a splash of water, and make sure it is well heated through. Never had a problem yet, however reading some of these replies makes me doubt myself.

Honestly, authentic Japanese sushi restaurants have just-warm rice all day ready for the sushi. How many rice related deaths are there?

We’re really weird about rice in this country.

Yep always freeze any extra, turns out perfect when microwaved. Like pp, I hate waste, I freeze everything rather than throw it away!

Aaargh 😩 now I don't know.

I wanted to do it because I'm away for 3 weeks in March and wanted to put some bits in the freezer for DH and DS to eat while I'm away.
It's either this or buy those pouches but they're so expensive

Yes it's fine as long as you cool it some studies say yesterdays rice is easier to digest

The danger with rice is if it isn't chilled fast and hangs around at room temperature for too long. We routinely make double batches of rice to freeze half and have done so for years. It's frozen asap after cooking in a freezer bag. We defrost overnight in the fridge. We use it for egg fried rice, spicy rice, lemon ginger turmeric rice, whatever 🤷‍♂️. We always cook twice whatever we're doing and it works really well for us. Just ensure it's piping hot to serve. I also freeze homemade pilau rice.

My understanding is that whilst cooking (assuming sufficient temperature) will kill off the bacteria that can breed in cooked rice it won't remove the toxins they produce. Everything boils down to common sense. If you have high risk people in your household be extra careful and don't freeze rice that's been left hanging around for extended periods.

I put leftover rice in a sieve, run cold water through and put straight i the freezer. To use I pour boiling water through and then fry or microwave as required.

I hate cooking rice, it goes sticky and horrible so I buy sachet or frozen rice

I've cooled / reheated rice near enough all my life and I've had no problems touch wood! Can't believe how much of a big deal rice can be to some people.
