Dinner for 6 non veggies and one veggie

As above. I’m having 7 people to dinner, one is a vegetarian and the others aren’t. Ideally I need something I can cook in advance during the day and then heat up, at least mostly. No other dietary requirements afaik.

Ideas please for main and sides! I don’t mind whether it’s fully vegetarian or meat based with a adaptation for the vegetarian but would prefer the vegetarian meal to be broadly similar.

Note: I have never made curry or Thai/other SE Asian food so that would be quite scary...

Steak chilli/veg chilli. Rice, nachos, cheese dips, tortillas etc

Oh that’s an excellent idea.

Quorn chilli with wholemeal rice, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, tortilla chips, pitta bread. Quorn cooks really quickly.
Is it formal or just a get together.

Inspired by the chilli - if I wanted to do pulled pork, is there a vegetarian equivalent?

Can either do jack fruit or make a ready made style pulled pork

Lasagne/chilli/spag bol with beef mince for the meat eaters and veggie mince for the veggie ( meatless farm Co or tesco frozen are the best imo) with garlic bread and a nice salad?

I have a great recipe for veggie chilli (link below) tho you would want to halve (or even quarter) it if you are just making it for one. Have served this to lots of meat eaters too and they love it so maybe they would scoop up some if there is too much for one. The key is to half blend it at the end so it gets a thick meaty quality rather than just being beans. Easy to make too xxx

I’d avoid quorn chilli - the mince Can give you terrible tummy problems and with that many people I’d be amazed if one or two didn’t spend the night on the loo (sorry tmi).

I usually do a started of olives, crudités, dips, bread and sliced meats for the meat eaters. Risotto is easy and a good vegetable one is great for even hardened meat eaters. Pie or cake for desert.

Mushroom Risotto with asparagus

Roasted vegetable lasagne or moussakka served with salad/chips/garlic bread

Potato skins (scooped out, mashed with butter & cheese, pushed back in & put under the grill)

Couple of different quiches with new potatoes & salad

Toad in the hole (all veggie toads or just 1) roast potatoes & cauliflower cheese.

Veggie here.

Unless the meat eaters would be happy to eat veggie I can't see the chilli Idea being particularly easy when there's only one veggie.

I'd suggest one of the following:

Traditional roast but ensure potatoes and Yorkshire's veggie friendly, sub the meat with nut cutlet, Quorn fillet or steak or an individual veggie wellington or similar easily found in freezer sections and have veggie gravy available.

Pasta dish that many meat eaters are used to but is naturally veggie eg macaroni cheese or pesto pasta with nice veg serve with salad, garlic bread etc

Sausage and mash - may seem simple but I've found is actually quite popular because it's a familiar dish. Simply need veggie sausages and gravy

Do something more "buffet style" where the guests create their own plate - tacos, tortilla wraps, tapas... you get the idea. But make sure there's plenty of the veggie options as the meat eaters will likely snaffle them too.

Ok successfully put off Quorn mince chilli Grin! The recipe from Janefx40 looks great though thanks and no quorn in sight.

Anyone got a fab meat chilli recipe to share, I think mine is a bit odd in its spicing so may not be a crowd pleaser....

I will look up the Linda McCartney vege pulled pork, I’m intrigued as to what it’s made of!

Risotto I could do... though feel like I’d need some fancy sides to go with.

Lasagna with quorn mince; you can add loads of flavour to the ragu with garlic, red wine, Lea and Perrins, bay leafs etc. Could do wedges, garlic bread and a chunky salad to go with it so it'll be a really filling meal. You can make the lasagna in advance and heat it up with the wedges and garlic bread too x

Curry also works well as you can have loads of veggie stuff and tandoori chicken legs or skewers for the meat eaters and tandoori tofu for veggy.
A selection of dahl, mushroom bhaji, mixed veg curry, bombay potato, saag paneer, samosas, start with poppadoms and chutneys.

Or do a big two bean veg chilli for everyone with tacos, guacamole, salsa etc. There is a lovely kidney and black bean chilli on Good Food.

I too was going to suggest fajita wraps where you put everything on the table and guests help themselves. Esp if its not a formal setting. A vegan friend did this and I was amazed how tasty it was without meat!

I'd make up a guacomole, grated cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, shredded lettuce, a chilli mince and maybe a sliced chicken fajita and/or quorn chilli, flavoured tomato rice and either refried beans or black beans. Dried black beans are very cheap, and cooked in a pressure cooker with some spices then sprinkled with coriander when done is delicious.

Not a meat chilli but BBC Good food Burnt aubergine chilli is fantastic - had it for dinner tonight and it was lovely. Though I reduced soy sauce down to 1 tablespoon and if grilling aubergine remember to prick it otherwise it tends to explode!

Risotto- all you need is a nice salad and crunchy bread to go with it. Lots of wine and (veggie) Parmesan cheese. 👩‍🍳

If I do chilli I would probably just do a vege version for everyone. Maybe with something meaty on the side (I could just flash fry some thin steak maybe) for those who really can’t cope without meat.
