Can I freeze baked beans?

On a very tight budget at the moment...

DD loves baked beans but due to sugar/salt content I don't like her to have them 2 or 3 days in a row.

If I were to buy the big tins that work out cheapest per g could I just decant a tin into portion sizes and freeze them?

yes fine, I make a bean stew thats really bean heavy and it comes back out fine. I would gently re-heat though without loads of stirring in case they get mushy.

I make my own because of the sugar & salt in commercial tins, & freeze in individual portions - much cheaper as well. They defrost quickly & re-heat very well in the mic.

Most beans come with a reduced salt and sugar version

Yep. My daughter loves them, we allow her half a tin and freeze the other half for another day and they are fine

@INeedNewShoes You certainly can.
Mine are different every time I make a batch, but basically a tomato sauce with tinned toms/passata, onions, herbs - basil, thyme, etc - garlic, chilli... whatever you fancy.
Cook long & slow, blend if you want it smooth (I like it a bit chunky) then add whatever beans you have.
I usually cook dried beans (even cheaper) but sometimes I CBA & tinned are fine if rinsed first.

You could also puree down things like carrot or sweet potato for a more natural sweetness and added nutrition.

I think on balance I'm going to go with buying the Waitrose essentials beans which are lower in salt and sugar that Heinz without having had sweeteners added.

I couldn't possibly make my own for the same low cost and I think that for one lunch per week that the sugar/salt won't hurt. This is supposed to be a cheap convenient quick meal! (I cook all of our main meals from scratch and other lunches are things like mashed avocado, sardines on toast, homemade soup so I'm going to allow myself to just buy the beans!)

I do it all the time, I buy little round Tupperware pots in Tesco.
