Easy, hot dessert for 20 people

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/12/2019 19:09

When we go go Sweden after Christmas we’ll be cooking 1 night for 20 people.

Main course will be a chilli (meat and veggie versions) but I’m struggling for ideas for an easy dessert for that number.

Fruit crumble is easy to upscale as long as you have a sufficiently large receptacle/s.

I wasgoing to say crumble too. Even more foolproof is if you cook the crumble and fruit separately like this www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/778642/apple-and-blackberry-crumble

Banana and custard.

Google self saucing puddings, either chocolate or lemon, dead easy and really good.

Or this www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/easy-treacle-sponge with ice cream or cream if you can't be bothered making custard.

Crumble all the way and always popular.

Some sort of bread and butter pudding. There are so many variations you can make using different kinds of bread or croissants and different flavours but they’re all simple.

Delia’s chocolate bread and butter pudding is easy and can be done in advance. You are meant to rest it for at least 24hrs before cooking.

You could buy a large pannetone in the sales and make a festive bread and butter pudding.

Lava cake in your slow cooker.

Nigella's Chocolate Pear Pudding is delicious and very easy.

Nigella does a lovely and very easy sticky toffee pudding with dates. Tbh I think you'll have to make two of whatever you choose. I'd probably do a big STP and an apple tart, each to serve 10. Cream to pour.

Ooh yes panettone bread and butter pudding - it's fab
I don't bother with the cream instead of milk- it's rich enough
Just make as normal and decrease the sugar a bit as the panettone sweet already. I think brown sugar nicer than white too

Buy a Prinsesstårta or two from the nearest bakery or supermarked, not hot but sweedish Smile.

Panettone pudding is amazing and so easy. I add more sultanas in between.

Another vote for baked apples

Baked pears with chocolate sauce are even easier, though, because you serve them whole, no need to core. I would usually stick some cloves in before baking and then dump white wine in the pan

Another vote for bread and butter pudding.

Or rice pudding, with plums baked in port to have with it.

Dont do rice pudding for after xmas- almost everyone will have had it for jul! Are you catering for brits or swedes and can you bring stuff from the uk? If so bring an xmas pud and custard, and make something like nigella's flourless brownies, or a fruit tart.

So many good suggestions, thanks.

I like the idea of baked apples or pears and maybe a bread and butter pudding too. No idea about what receptacles we’ll have until we arrive!

Catering for brits - aged from 6- late 40’s.

Cake and custard - You can bake the cake in sheet pans and then cut into squares. Custard can be made from powder, tinned or take/buy ingredients to make on the day.

I have the perfect posh but simple bread and butter style pudding recipe - it's a total crowd pleaser, a bit special, and it's so easy! It's from the Green & Black book and it's chocolate & raspberry croissant pudding. I had a look and the recipe is available online, link below. I've made this loads of times for guests and people always ask for the recipe :)
