Wraps! What to put in them?

I'm hoping for inspiration for fillings, as I've got two large packs to use up. So far I've thought of Chinese duck & lettuce and Caesar salad, but what else would work? What do you put in your wraps?

If I feel like making an effort I sometimes get some cooked prawns, mix together some mayo and chipotle paste, spread the mayo chipotle mix over the wrap then add the prawns and some sliced avocado. It's delicious, and also good in a pitta.

A favourite here is grated cheese mixed with finely chopped tomato, cucumber, spring onions, and half and half mayonnaise and yoghurt. Ham and coleslaw. Hummus and salad. Hot with cauliflower cheese and crispy bacon (sounds odd but works), as well as the usual chicken fajitas, burritos etc. Quesadillas - can be made with a tin of mixed bean salad or even baked beans, chilli flakes and cheese. Slightly stale ones cut up into triangles and fried until crispy for tortilla chips for dips.

My DP makes the most beautiful burritos from scratch, no idea how he does it though! They’re so good we can get through most of a pack of wraps between us (then feel like we won’t be able to eat again for a week)

I put one in the bottom of a hot frying pan with no oil, top with grated cheese and whatever other bits I fancy (usually tomato, pickled jalapeños, olives, etc. Pizza type toppings) then put another wrap on top, let the cheese melt a bit, flip over so both sides are crispy then cut into triangles

  • Falafel and houmous + salad
  • Grilled hallumi, vegetables and garlic sauce
  • Fill with cheese and beans/meat/veggies and toast to make quesadillas
  • Grill some halloumi and add that with some vegetables

Use them to make fajitas

I like to make up breakfast wraps for the freezer. Spread some refried beans over, fry some grated potato with or without onion, until crispy then scrambled egg and a sausage or two if we have any then a bit of hot sauce. I do make up some that are just scrambled egg and sausage for the dcs. I lift them out the night before then they can just be heated through in the morning for a quick breakfast, good and filling on a day where they have to go to school early if I’m working. They’re not gourmet at all but can make breakfast time a bit more interesting.

I cook some black beans in a pan with some BBQ seasoning, add cooked butternut squash and sort of mash together a bit.
Then I cook it between two wraps in a pan with cheese. A quesadilla basically. Drizzle with BBQ sauce after.

My family all love omelette wraps.

Beat an egg hard.
Melt some butter in a frying pan about the size of your wraps.
Pour half the egg into the hot pan, swirl to cover the pan base, and immediately drop a wrap onto the egg.
When cooked (it doesn't take long) flip the wrap out, squirt with ketchup and wroll up.
Repeat for the other half of the egg.

Very nice hot or cold.

Chicken salad - a classic.
BBQ chicken and cheese - pop in the microwave to melt.
Fajitas
Chilli and cheese - bit like a burrito, lighter option than a jack pot
Paella - don't care if it's weird it's bloody delicious.

What type of cheese makes the best quesadillas?

I normally just use cheddar, but I’ve seen recipes that use gruyere and feta, and once in a pitch I used grated mozzarella which also worked well!

For a hot one, marinade strips of steak with fresh lime, fresh coriander, cumin, garlic, chopped jalapeno chillies, sugar and salt and pepper. Leave overnight to marinate. Cook strips on griddle pan, add tomato salsa, grated cheese and sour cream. Yum!
