What shop bought mince pies do you think are really good?

And is it too early to start eating them now (late November)?

I can't really help with best supermarket ones as I prefer cheap ones to naice ones. (Sainsbury's are nice).

But I've been eating them since late September! Grin

I like the fresh bakery ones, even from the supermarket bakery are so much better than the boxed ones. It’s the short sweet crumbly pastry 😋drool

Not the mini "luxury" Lidl ones. I kept eating them, thinking the next one would be better. It wasn't. So I'll watch this thread.

Sainsbury's bakery ones, the flat ones, are the best. Followed by Greggs and Asda. I've tried em all!

Marks and Spencer won this for me last year. I haven't checked them this year yet though!

M&S collection are delish. I speak as an aficionado on mincemeat as have developed it for a number of mince pie manufacturers

We have Waitrose No. 1 mince pies at home (finishing up Waitrose Christmas shortbread biscuits before breaking into them), but now I've got to try the ones you've all mentioned!

Disappointed with Iceland luxury ones this year. Loved them in previous years. Aldi ones not that great this year either. I’ve just bought tesco finest (on offer) so I’ll give them a try. I haven’t tried M&S or Waitrose this year yet. I’ve also never tried the in-house bakery ones.

Not the M&S 'posh' ones. So bland - taste of nothing but sugar

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference are good

Just bought Heston ones - will report back

Anything baked in store over anything in a cardboard box. Sainsbury's have been the best so far (we try all the different types, for science) but Co-op puff pastry a close second. But Greggs beat them all.

Tesco's bog standard are crumbly if that's what you're looking for. Can't say I tried many but was impressed with how nice they were especially with a quick zap in microwave and some pouring cream. Yum Grin

Coles cheapo ones are nasty, apparently.

DH bought some yesterday. He ate one and binned the rest.

Top tip I would share with you-all the ones on sale now are reasonably freshly baked. The ones which will be on sale in the week leading up to Christmas will have been baked in the summer and commercially frozen
