Gluten free...dairy free...veggie(16 Posts)
I could do with some inspiration please. I have a family get together coming up for around 10 people with the above requirements. Kitchen isn’t huge, so anything which can be prepared in advance would be useful. All suggestions welcome, as I’m struggling for ideas!
As a meat eating everything eating mum, my head says Indian food. So many delicious vegan recipes without gluten.
Or Mediterranean - roasted veg, couscous, salads? Rick Stein has a great recipe for Briam.
How about chilli? You can do one with meat and then another that's meat free - you can make them in advance and then just reheat when you're ready to serve.
Then you just do a big pan of rice and serve with guacamole, sour cream (or dairy free plain/unflavoured yoghurt for the dairy free), salsa and corn tortilla chips
Chilli with veggie mince and lots of veg, rice. If you feel fancy add sides - tortilla chips (double check back of packet but usually gluten-free), with guacamole (easy to make, all you really need to do is mash avocados and add seasoning) - and salsa if you want, similarly but chop tomatoes. Grated cheese and sour cream for the dairy eaters to add if they want. All suited to being prepared in advance.
Or spaghetti bol - obviously with veggie mince, and with gluten-free spaghetti, fancy breads eg rosemary focaccia - you can also get gluten-free ones. Big green salad.

I personally wouldn't faff with doing different versions as there is no obligation to actively serve meat or gluten. I know there are still some idiots who think they will die if they don't have meat for one meal though .
Do not use veggie mince or any other meat replacements! Most of them are made out of gluten. It would be better to use pulses for protein, maybe a chickpea curry. Most of the gluten free breads etc won’t be vegetarian either, many of them contain egg to compensate for the lack of gluten.
Everyone is veggie, so that helps! Chilli is a great suggestion, but it probably needs to be a bit more “formal” - think Xmas dinner style. Although I could always posh up a chilli I suppose!

Cous cous is made of wheat and most definitely not gluten free. Avoid that suggestion!
As a celiac I'd rarely trust food prepared by other people as most have no idea what contains gluten. I'd speak with your guests first if possible
What about a Turkish style meal?
Im a coeliac and always make this when we have friends round.
Cook rice with stock, peas and sweetcorn.
Roast loads and loads of veggies with spices - think cumin, coriander, garlic, chilli etc
Cook up loads of halloumi and a similar version for the dairy frees.
Mint yoghurt (dairy free option for those who can't have it) - check the mint sauce for barley though.
Gluten free pitta breads (cook in the oven though to ensure no contamination from your toaster)
I am a gluten free and dairy free veggie. How about home made pizzas? Befree do pizza bases and you could get dairy free cheese and veggie toppings. You could also make normal pizza. Then do some home made chips and sides. Tesco has a nice range right now.
Quorn is mostly gluten free and would do great as a chilli or a casserole. I do it for work, I use the casserole veg packs and quorn mince.
You could also make fajitas, you can get vegan gluten free wraps and vivera do really nice meat alternatives. Aldi do dairy free sour cream.
If you want to do a desserts wicked kitchen have a nice range of vegan puddings. Or a nice cheese and biscuit board.
Slow roasted celeriac (you can do 2 or 3 depending on size) is an absolutely delicious and stunning ‘roast’ type meal. You can do as many or as few sides with it, gf gravy. I make it a lot and it always goes down an absolute storm.

Vegetarians eat eggs.
Is your gluten free person coeliac or just intolerant? That makes a difference in there of the seriousness of cross contamination.
Is it an evening meal or lunch? I’d probably do a curry - couple of different mains including a daal, onion bhajis/veg pakoras made with chick pea flour.

Person is gluten intolerant, not coeliac, so cross contamination isn’t an issue.
