Wheat and dairy free breakfasts?

I've decided to clean up my diet and cut out wheat and dairy, mainly because bread and butter and cheese are my trigger foods for overeating/binging. Also because it would remove a lot of the other rubbish, biscuits, processed snacks etc and force me to eat more good stuff.

Anyway I recognise I can't do it overnight, so what shall I have for breakfast as a starting point? Needs to be quick and I'm not keen on the idea of "other" milks but maybe that's because I need educating?

You don’t have to go wheat and dairy free to eat better. I think you’ll find it really limiting and more difficult to eat healthily.

Porridge could fit your requirements.

If butter and cheese are the issue then do you really need to cut out milk and yoghurt? Same for cereal?
I’m just thinking it’s going to make it really hard and might not be necessary to be so restrictive.

I really like a smoothie for breakfast, and find that banana, strawberry and coconut yoghurt is lovely together. Really filling too.

Maybe cook some vegan sausages in advance? You could have a sausage sandwich then! Try Naturli spread, it's the best vegan alternative to butter I've found, tastes like Lurpak.

Definitely try some alternative milks as you can make things like overnight oats, porridge, cereal really easily then. My favourites are Oatly foamable oat milk and Koko coconut milk. Alpro coconut yoghurt is lovely too. Good luck! ☺️

Try using the Oatley milk.

I also dislike most of the ‘other’ milks but really love Oatley.

I find the semi skimmed best. It is great in coffee, OK in tea and makes great overnight oats or Porridge.

Eggs
Yoghurt
Fruit
Dairy-free porridge

Anything more elaborate than that I find I CBA to do first thing.

When I decided to try to lose weight I cut down butter and cheese dramatically. I only have it as a treat now, not a snack.

So healthy breakfasts for me are cereal and oat milk, or yogurt, forest fruits and honey.

I would really struggle to think of quick and easy breakfasts with no dairy or dairy alternatives.

If you are going for an "other" milk, please think of the environment and source "locally" - in the UK, oat milk has a lower carbon footprint than Almond milk for instance.

See op, this is why I think your plan won’t work. If binging/overeating is an issue, won’t you just start binging on dairy/wheat free versions of your old favourites? Naturli isn’t particularly any healthier than lurpak. I’m a vegan.

I wonder if keto is what you’re really after OP.

I think you should consult your GP before drastically reducing your intake of entire food groups as recommended in the keto diet.

Eggs seems the obvious - scrambled on the hob or in the microwave, or an omelette or fried etc. You can also make baked eggs by lining muffin tins with prosciutto, cracking in an egg and baking. Mini frittatas made in muffin tins and frozen would be good too. Add roasted tomatoes/spinach/mushrooms/sausages/bacon. You could also serve on rosti if you want eggs 'on something'. I have done sweet potato slices in the toaster before too and they take a while but they're OK.

Otherwise, stewed fruit? Stewed apple would be good at this time of year.

Banana and egg pancakes are delicious and I've frozen batches before with no issues. I find them more palatable very early in the morning than straight eggs (I work shifts, so very early can be really bloody early and it makes some foods hard to stomach).

If you do decide to keep milk or use milk alternatives, baked oatmeal is nice. There's a carrot cake baked oatmeal I've cooked a few times, and again, you can freeze it.

Egg and veg muffins are good because you can make them a few days in advance. I also like chia 'pudding' - the night before put a couple of tablespoons of chia seeds with 4 tablespoons of oats into a cup or glass, fill with oat or nut milk (Oatly whole is my favourite) and add some honey or maple syrup and some cinnamon if you like it. Then in the morning add some berries or sliced apple or banana.

I think it would be better to cut out/down on processed food rather than wheat and dairy. Using dairy alternatives and gluten free bread isnt any healthier, as they are just as processed and fatty/salty/sugary as the standard version.

If you want to go for a minimally processed breakfast, eggs are good, oats or porridge, fruit and yogurt.

the only reason for going wheat/gluten free is because you cant tolerate wheat. If I didn't have IBS I would happily eat wheat - or low fat cow milk. However, fruit & nuts & juice or soya yogurt - use cinnamon for flavour instead of sugar - the humble baked beans with poached eggs with sweet potato or dhal & brown rice
