How to cook a gammon joint

I have a gammon joint, unsmoked if it makes a difference and I’m unsure how to cook it.
I usually get steaks and would cook with pineapple or egg.
When I’ve googled it suggests boiling? I’ve never boiled meat in my life!
I vaguely recall having gammon with parsley sauce, and even vaguelier (!) think I remember someone cooking it in cola...

I’d be grateful to hear your tips or favourite recipes thanks :)

You can boil it or roast it.
If you are roasting give it a soak in water to get some salt out.
The ends are delicious when it's roasted 😍

Yes, in cola in the slow cooker! It just melts in your mouth. You can put a honey mustard glaze on it and finish it off in the oven.

I usually boil it first and let it rest then glaze it with honey and mustard and pop it in the oven for half an hour.

I did this pinchofnom.com/recipes/campfire-stew/ this week and it was lovely, and very easy.

Nip onto Delia Online - she has recipes for gammon joints.

DH always boils the joint, as that removes a lot of the salt and then roasts it in honey for half an hour.

I've done ham on cola (boil in cola, then glaze in the oven) and slow roast covered in treacle, I prefer the slow roast one personally. Both Nigella recipes.

Nigellas ham in cola is what you need.

Honestly it's wonderful.

You boil it on the cola and then glaze with black treacle and brown sugar.

It gives the meat a smoky sweet/salt flavour that's wonderful.

I can't cook it any other way now and everyone whose tasted it loves it.

I tend to serve it with mash and braised red cabbage or jacket potato's with a sour cream/chive dressing and broccoli.

There's also a variation re: cherry cola, glazed with cherry jam which is also nice (but I still prefer the original).

Soak in a pot of water over night.

Stick in a slow cooker for 6hrs or so in an inch of water.

Score the fat and stud with cloves, press in some brown sugar and drizzle with honey and finish on the oven for 20mins

I often do the Hairy Bikers marmalade gammon. It’s really festive with cloves and oranges.

In the slow cooker with a bit of apple juice. Then crisp it up a bit in the oven before serving.

I boil mine if it's one of the skinless small joints, with an a onion, peppercorns and a couple of bay leaves.

If it's a 'proper' joint roast it, then remove the skin score and glaze with marmalade or treacle.
