Sunday lunch

I’ve offered to host a Sunday family meal and I’m now stuck for what to cook. There will be 20 of us altogether (4 children) so I’m thinking I’ll struggle to a traditional roast. Any suggestions gratefully received!

20 ?!?! Madness!!

Do you have a slow cooker? If so try and borrow a second one and make two vats of chilli. Stack of baked sweet potato on the side, tortilla chips, cheese and guacamole.

20 is... challenging. You could do a huge rib of beef maybe? How big is your oven?

Jacket potatoes (cook well in advance to make sure they're done)
Big pot chilli
Big pot veggie chilli
Big pot ratatouille
Lots grated cheese
Coleslaw
Big green salad with nice dressings
Baked beans

All can be cooked in advance, don't mind being reheated, and don't need precise timings.

Could you do. Massive gammon? Not so much waste. Then either rolls and coleslaw and salad or mash, carrots and peas and apple sauce. You really need to keep it simple. A couple of apple crumbles and vanilla ice cream for afters

Pulled pork would work & is fairly economical too.

I'd roast 5 chickens beforehand, make loads of gravy with the juices, carve the birds & stick them in the fridge covered with gravy.
Should be plenty of room to boil & then roast spuds & perhaps parsnips in the oven.

Steam/boil lots of different greens either in the microwave or on the hob.
Reheat meat&gravy gently in mike, & put on platters to serve.

Toad in the hole. Mash potato, beans, assorted veg (steamer on the hob) and gravy. Possible in a regular oven.

I'm doing a Sunday lunch next month for between 25 and 30 for a special celebration.

I've planned my menu... some can be done in advance...

I'm preparing two or three very large Salmon en Croute stuffed with pesto and watercress (fresh pastry, freeze in advance, and cook on the day)
New potatoes with butter and fresh parsley in the slow cooker
Honey and lemon chicken breasts
Vietnamese coleslaw
Pasta salad
Green salad
Tomato and mozzarella salad
Bread rolls

I'm working on the puds.... hoping family will bring some!

couple of big lasagne with garlic bread and big salad.
weve had great succes also with a big pot of stew, then you oculd put dumplings on top.or make some yorkshires.if you do stew this also means they will be on the top so you can roast some potatos or yorkshires whilst its on there. then put them in the oven to keep warm whilst you cook some veggies.
