Square cake

Can anyone advise - I'm planning to make a cake in the shape of a 2 for DS birthday. I have found a "pattern" (good old Pinterest!) for how to cut a round cake and a square cake into the right shape and piece it together but I usually just make round cakes and use a standard 2 egg 4oz of everything else recipe for an 8" round cake. Will the same amount of mixture do for an 8" square tin too? Ie double it and split it between tins?

An 8 inch circle is a little bit smaller than an 8 inch square, so you're going to want about 1.25 times the original circle recipe to fill the square tin. For simplicity I would probably do 5 eggs worth of mixture and divide it between the two tins being a little more generous with the square tin than the circle tin!

base Area of an 8 inch square tin = 64 inches sq
base area of a an 8 inch circle tin = 50.2 inches sq

so the square tin requires 1.27 the volume of mixture the round one does.

So you could either do as above, or alternatively make a 2 egg mix and a 3 egg one and put a little from the latter into the former! Whichever you find easier.
