Do we have one running? If not is anyone up for giving Jamie Oliver's new Veg book a go with me for October?

Recipes I've seen from it look good and my kids are big Jamie fans so I'm going to try and get them involved too. Thinking the allotment cottage pie and greens mac n cheese are going to be my starting recipes. There are recipes available online from the book too with all the promo from the release.

I have this book and it's fantastic. The Greens Mac n Cheese is so yummy. I've got the gumbo on the meal plan for next week.

Ohhhhh I've just bought this book off amazon 12 quid. I've made the green mac cheese which was delumptious. I cooked it alongside a friend who didn't season ir taste before putting the cheese on etc so due me it needed more seasoning but was lovely. I love cheesy pasta and green veg so would make it again. From memory it has almonds on top which was worth it but I'm a bit naughty and would possibly crumble cooked croutons over as I really like the different textures and the crunch. We also made the veggie lasagne which I never got to taste 🤯 but everyone who ate it raved about it. If I recall correctly, ours didn't quite go like Jamie's did on the show. The aubergines gave off a hell of a lot of liquid so I spent a long time trying to reduce it down on a highish temperature. We used dried lasagne and it worked great. I've got my eye on the Indian style chip butty. I've only actually watched one of the programmes but I'm a big Jamie fan and my husband is a vegetarian so it was a natural step to buy the book. It should arrive tomorrow. We will watch the shows together, there just hasn't been time as yet. What has everyone tried?????

I've also made the sunshine fusilli which is so simple and quick, but very yummy. Tried the leek carbonara, it was good but I think I messed up as it had too much liquid in the sauce.

I tend to skim through and pick out the quickest recipes with the least amount of ingredients!

I'm in. Made the peach sweet and sour thing but used pineapple, rather than peaches. Was v nice.

I fancy the mushroom stroganoff with whisky, the bhel puri, the chip butty thing and the stew and dumplings.

Oh and the roast potatoes with pickled salad.

I'm on a self imposed cookery book purchase ban but did pause, play, rewind to get the recipe for the black bean burgers. The pad thai looked lovely the other day.

@Myshitisreal, I had the same experience with the aubergine lasagne. Too much liquid, so I just didn't add any more when I added the tinned tomatoes.
That's the only recipe I've tried so far. I though it was ok, but not fantastic. Probably wouldn't cook it again.
Have put the book on my birthday list for next month, so look forward to trying some more.
We are formerly veggies, so still eat a lot of meat-free meals.

Oh I don't know how to tag but I'm glad it wasn't just me with the watery pot 😂 . Dammit wish id tasted it now. There was a meat lasagne so I ate some of it and left Jamie's to the veggies. I have a bit of a thing about the texture of 🍆 anyway 🤮 😂

Right I've finally bought the book so have recipes at my disposal!

Greens mac and cheese was v tasty and my young kids liked and ate it. The thyme makes it quite herby but that didn't seem to put them off. Almonds on the top were great and I blitzed breadcrumbs with cheese for an extra crispy topping, that was yummy.

Flicking through, I like the look of the black bean burgers. Might try the sweet and sour thing, thought it looked a bit weird in the book but after @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie's comment I'll give it a go.

Yeah my husband was drawn to the black bean burgers also, and the homemade baked beans. Need to sit and look at ot properly. The crispy mac and cheese topping sounds perfect

Definitely pineapple not peaches though! I had peaches in a sweet and sour in a restaurant once - not nice; far too sweet.

The black bean burgers look great. Will definitely try those.

Yes it was the peaches that put me off! Kids will eat pineapple for days though.

My 4 year old has chosen Jamie's asparagus quiche for tonight's dinner. We're in Aus so asparagus has just come into season here. He may have a change of heart when he actually sees asparagus...

Leek carbonara was lovely!

Didn't like the creamy courgette pasta though.

I'm in, though. Forgot to add that.

Would not faff about with the asparagus soup again. Tasted nice but a bit stringy when blitzed, so thought I'd sieve it as he suggested and that took bloody ages! Nice but not worth the hassle.

Asparagus tart similarly tasty but probably a weekend meal as takes time.

I’m in too! Made the Allotment Cottage pie the other day after watching the programme on catchup and it was delicious. Also made the green mac&cheese but made it vegan as I’m allergic to dairy. It was a bit bland, I would imagine it would be delicious with Parmesan! Trying the black bean burger next.

I made the scruffy aubergine lasagne which we enjoyed but like others I didn't add all the water either and put more chilli in. We enjoyed it, I liked the almonds on top!

I find a lot of his recipes have too much water in them when he cooks things down so always reduce! I like his chilli from ministry of food but that would he swimming if I did what he said Grin

Ive just made the gumbo for dinner later. Oh my gosh. It is so delicious. I also made the chilli pickle side but I'm not really sure what to do with it...?

Update - chilli pickle was very yummy drizzled onto rice and gumbo.

I’ve put the book on my Christmas list but I’m going to try the leek carbonara tonight. And watch the programme later with a coffee as I’m at home with poorly dc.
