What shall I try... new things in supermarkets.

When I go shopping I always seem to spot ‘new’ food - jackfruit seems to be the latest popular thing.

Today I got to thinking - if I had never tried pasta and someone gave me a piece to try now, I’m not sure I’d love it (and I do love pasta).

I think maybe I’m missing out on interesting things? Granted I was in a health food store today and saw some fruit and veg that I didn’t recognise. They even had salmon ‘bacon’ which looked rather odd (luckily I’m veggie).

Just sitting here contemplating lunch and wondering what underrated foods I’m missing...

(Yes I don’t have enough to do today and am trying to avoid doing the laundry)

Following with interest! We're in a real rut due to a ridiculously picky DD!

I have found that new recipes involving things I know the dc will like are fun, eg spinach and chicken curry, they like all the ingredients but wouldn't necessarily have had them together?

Stokes chilli jam - delicious on cheese and biscuits, and really perked up a lentil sausage casserole the other day.

I like hard cheese with honey, if anyone hasn’t tried that.

I recently tried (veggie) katsu. I didn’t like the look of it (cat vomit) so had never had it. But it’s realy nice!

Ooh sounds interesting! I saw ‘popped cheese’ today but I’m not that brave.

Can I vote for something to consider avoiding? I had a salad from M&S - vegan Caesar with ‘protein’. It was so horrible I couldn’t eat it - which was something my colleagues commented on (because I am a dustbin).

😭 that list is making me sad!

Cheese and chocolate - is that sweet or savoury?

I've only just discovered chocolate chip brioche. I've only had brioche with burgers in hipster restaurants but we got some choc chip ones the other day & I'm hooked!

I'm evangelical about fennel tea. It's delicious & really helps with indigestion. I rarely drink any other hot drinks now.

I'm desperate to try the maple & pecan matchmakers. Haven't found them in any shops near me yet.

The Milka Philadelphia is a bit like chocolate cheesecake. A slight tang but overall sweet.

Salmon Philadelphia! Oh my god - why has it taken to long for me to try this? Gorgeous! I ate an entire tub with crackers for lunch last week.

I look at the Lotus biscuit spread and I just can’t try it. I have heard it’s lovely though.

I'm a sucker for new ingredients. I bought baharat, but can't remember or find the recipe I bought it for.

I've got things like dukkah in the cupboard that I used once, & it's probably gone stale by now.

I once bought some Japanese ‘spice’ which I liberally used in a type of veggie stew - but it turned out to be gunpowder/rocket fuel that it used as a seasoning to roll sushi in (looks very pretty) it is as hot as hell 🔥

@AGnu saw them in big Tesco in the Christmas chocolate isle because I love looking at Christmas chocolates. A fellow customer complained to me there were no mint or orange varieties.

@LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD Cheese & honey is classic, also good is cheese and marmalade.

Lemon curd is nice for toast.

I would if never tried pickle, unless I'd had it as a kid and now my 3 year old loves it too.
